PR Chances 2024

Post by RikkuG » Sat, 27 Apr 2024 12:33 pm

Hi Guys,

I've been lurking around this forum for a while now. I want to try a PR application on my 2nd year here but without expectations. I'm doing my due diligence on the documents:

Here's my profile:

Nationality: Filipino
Race: Chinese (Father side: I may have my grandfather's old BC and naturalization papers stating he's from China. Mother side: my grandpa is a Chinese citizen, and it reflects in mom's Philippine BC, I have no BC of my grandpa though).
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Degree: Bachelor's Degree to one of the top universities in PH, Computer Science.
Years in SG: 2 years,
Years of Work Exp: 14 years; 12 from PH.
Salary: 90k + AWS + Variable.
Occupation: Senior Software Developer.
Pass Type: EP
Other notes: I would have my 2nd IRAS NOA this year.

For those who have submitted: Are the documents required to be 'authenticated' by the host country aka 'Apostilled'? e.g. BC, Diploma coming from PH? Also in the case of my grandpa's documents, if they are in Chinese, can I simply have them translated back in PH and notarized or it has to be done in SG?

The only main advantage for your case is that you claim that you have a chinese race, but i dont know if that will be sufficient to get approval. Might be quite tough to get this time, if race ancestry does not help you. Regarding your 'Apostilled' query i hope someone related to your background can answer here.

Hello, I'm gonna jump in here to share my profile since I am also Filipino with Chinese ancestry. Recently submitted PR application in March 2024.
Below is my profile hope anyone can give your thoughts on our chances.

Nationality: Filipino
Race: Chinese
Age: 36
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Married
Degree: Bachelor's Degree (PH), IT and Master's Degree (PH)
Years in SG: 10 years,
Years of Work Exp: 14 years; 4 from PH.
Salary: 96K
Occupation: Senior Software Developer.
Pass Type: EP
Other notes: Applying with my Husband (Filipino) SPass (36k+AWS+bonus). We have 2 kids (Girl/Boy) - P1 and N1 both studying in a local school (born in SG). Kids are also of Chinese race.

Hi @RikkuG , You can submit the requirements to update your race directly to MOM so your Singpass will reflect the accurate race. Thanks!

@mergeclimb

How were you able to update "Race" with MOM? You did this as a pre-requisite before applying PR?

Did they ask you proof of ancestry (e.g. Grandparents Overseas Chinese Registration Cert + Dad's BC) ?

Yes @RikkuG. I have requested MOM to update our "race" prior to applying PR through this link: https://form.gov.sg/5ba84de965171a000fda5f3e

They will request the supporting documents (e.g. proof of ancestry) through email though the approval is on a case-to-case basis.

You are not required to submit ancestry proof when you are applying for PR. Infact, there is no field in the application where you can update such ancestry supporting documents. So it is not a pre-requisite to submit ancestry document when applying pr.

You can only update the proof of ancestry to MOM, only when they email you to give such proof. Otherwise, you are not required to give it. You can reply to ICAs email with the proof of ancestry if they ask.

If you email ICA with documents that they have not asked, it will only annoy them. Only 4 items can be updated from your side at your will (if there are any changes), like 1) employment change, 2) address change, 3) marital status, 4) education qualification changes.

Nothing can be predicted with the details that you have provided, as the information is very little. The fact that you are in Spass and guessing from indian ethnicity, it is already going to be tough for pr. Have a look at other posts, then you can understand the variety of details required to gauge your approval. You have to share all of your profile to some extent.

Hi everyone, I decided to join this very expensive game of chance, and I think this is really part of the experience for any expat/foreigner who lives here in SG.

Here are some few clarifications in my profile from the last time I posted:

Race: Chinese (updated by MOM after submitting supporting documents, my race now correctly reflects in Singpass, thanks @mergeclimb!).
Industry: Manufacturing (Electronics)
Occupation: I'm an SAP analyst and developer all in one so my work depends on which companies has SAP (whether consulting or in-house of which both I've worked in).
I also have only went home PH once ever since I started living here in SG; around 1 week and went to other countries 2 times (excluding the PH one).
Residence: I've only lived in HDB flats (with nearby hawker, stores and bus stops), and I think none of them are in 'expat enclaves'. Heck, I've become a local barber's regular customer :D.

Some of the steps I took between opening this thread and now.
  • Changed my race to Chinese; I presented MOM a chart of my family tree, my paternal grandfather's Chinese Overseas Registration Certificate (translated to English) and his naturalization papers (he is a 2nd-gen Chinese Citizen born in PH after WWI and the naturalization court order tells much about his background and a bit of my great-grandpa), and my family and siblings' birth certificates. I plan to simply upload this in the new ICA ePR even if the new ePR system now captures my race from Singpass
  • I took all my school records from Kindergarten to University. I also took the extra step of having them verified (CAV) to our education authorities and legalizing (Apostille) them so that they can be used legally 'internationally'. As for my Chinese education, I had to get all my marksheets and had them translated as well. The docs also are the only ones that allow me to use my Chinese name in the 'ethnic name' field as PH Birth Certificates do not recognize race (in the newer records) and ethnic names.
  • There is a section in the new ePR system called 'Testimonials' and it only can hold 1 file. I presume this is your 'Employment History'. To that end I simply requested updated employment letters from my previous companies (so that at least ICA can email the correct HR address if they decided to verify :-k )
  • I'm also submitting my old passports' biodata pages (I visited SG before) and my newly issued PH National ID; I guess won't hurt if I put in form and ICA can verify it somewhere :-k
  • And finally, I am just waiting for Ghost Month to be over before I submit :D, I just took the gap time in August to get more docs.
I'm also not sure if the new ePR system allows you to upload Increment Letters and Bonus Letters (or you have to email ICA?). I will find out once I submit.

At this point, I kind of feel this is a hail mary throw just like American Football and I'm pretty much just hoping for the best. Though I also think that my Nationality and marital status will hold me back in terms of PR points.

Hi Everyone, updating back to the forum. I would like to share that my I have received my IPA for my PR application just today.

I have applied 4 months ago and the upload button and withdraw application disappeared two days ago (yes, even on the current ePR system they still disappear).

I'm actually surprised because with my profile, I'm expecting that I will get a rejection. I actually became sad when it disappeared coz there's no way I'm getting an approval this fast.

There's no "Pending". The MyICA site shows "Processing" (or something in that line) in the "home screen" and within the new tool it just says, "Processing Application". This text has never changed until it was approved.

Though I read somewhere that dependents of main applicants would see "Pending" instead.

They never asked.

Also because the new ePR system can now accept multiple files. So I simply uploaded the files I gave to MOM.

The new ePR system also takes your Race from your Singpass. What I can't answer is if they will challenge you again. But in my case I don't want to risk it and just gave everything.
