[2024] Timeline of Citizenship Application (Approved) (Malaysian Chinese)

Post by BananZ » Wed, 24 Apr 2024 3:52 pm

I have been inactive for so long after getting my PR, old post: viewtopic.php?t=136439
It's finally time for some update!

[Background]
- Malaysian Chinese
- Came to SG in 2019 at age of 24, currently 29 years old.
- Total time in SG - 4 years 11 months.
- Software Engineer
- Single at the time of apply, submitted ROM certificate while pending for result.

[Timeline]
21/05/2019 - Started working in SG, holding EP with 2 years validity
===PR Journey===
08/01/2020 - Applied for ePR after collecting 6 payslips
26/07/2020 - ICA website shows ePR as Approved
03/08/2020 - visit ICA to do PR formality
12/03/2020 - received blue IC at Post Office
===Citizenship Journey===
01/08/2022 - Applied for Citizenship after holding PR for 2 years
01/03/2024 - [19 months later] ICA website shows Citizenship as Approved, clicking view status still shows as Pending.
03/03/2024 - Able to download In-principle Approval Letter (IPA) from ICA website.
04/03/2024 - Able to login to SGJourney and book Community Sharing Session (CSS) and Singapore Experiential Visit (SEV). Completed eLearning module within same day.
03/04/2024 - Attended SEV, able to do survey on second day in the morning.
20/04/2024 - Attended CSS, able to do survey on second day at night (Sunday). Whole SGJourney completed.
23/04/2024 - ICA website updated, able to upload photo, make payment for IC, do appointment for oath taking, and download final Approval letter.
24/04/2024 - Visit High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore and do renunciation of Malaysian citizenship.
29/04/2024 - Visit High Com to collect renunciation letter.
30/04/2024 - Visit ICA to become Singapore Citizen, and apply for SG Passport.
======

[Notes]
- I have made appointment with High Com through https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/ ... wgRISC5OM= with an assumption of able to get final Approval letter from ICA 3 working days after completing SGJourney, some people couldn't get it so this is pure luck.
- CSS is the hardest to book as it's only available once every month in my GRC.
- I have written emails to ICA citizenship unit twice but the replies were standard - just wait for update.

Well, the last two activities (receive renunciation letter and visit ICA) haven't been done yet as they're scheduled for the future, but I've got all the appointments sorted out, so everything should go according to plan.

Why? is it good? is it bad?

from what I've read from other social media, many applicants who are mothers with children got approved within a year.

Yes it is pretty much straightforward for malaysian chinese. Congrats you got it, but its not much surprising, as there are not many tough criteria. Else, it is quite impossible to get Workpass to Sc in just 7 years without local sponsor. Not very likely for other races in such short duration.

Hi @BananZ . I just got my citizenship approval recently as well. I like your detailed timeline. It helped my planning as well. I am just curious, after your passport application on 30/04/2024, when was the passport available for collection?

Hi,

I understand that when you renounce Msian Citizenship, passport is taken away and they give a confirmation slip after a few days. Is that enough for Spore to proceed with the SG citizenship?

Cause I understand the full renounciation from Msia takes a few months.
