Job advice for belgian post grad looking to move (Finance)

Post by jhxtan » Mon, 22 Apr 2024 4:26 pm

Hi all,

My really good friend has been looking to get a job in finance in Singapore. He is from Belgium and came over on an exchange to SMU during his masters programme and really wants to get a job and move here.

Education background: He is on his last semester at University of Antwerp, doing Masters in Business economics and majors in Finance.

He has a strong desire to work in investment banking, M&A, or Wealth Management. But is really open to any job in a reputable bank (local or international) or establishment like GIC, Marsh etc. He is currently looking at graduate programmes because those seem to be his best bet.

He has done internships with PWC (transfer pricing), and an Insurance brokerage firm in Belgium.

Anyone have any advice, or ideas on how to get a foot into the industry and get a job as a foreigner who is coming out of university with not a lot of real world working experience? Anyone with any connections, experience or knows anyone who has succeeded in getting a job with a similar background, any and all help would be very appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Advice? Yes. Get a job with an MNC in Belgium that has offices in Singapore. Ask to be transferred to Singapore. That's the only way it's going to happen.

There is not one single reason that a foreign, fresh grad from uni is going to be allowed by the government to compete with local college graduates for a limited number of jobs. That's reality.
