MOE exemption for children of SG teachers in international schools

Hi all. Does the MOE provide exemption to SG citizen children to attend the International School where their parents may be teaching? Is that considered a valid reason? Please let me know if you would know.

If that is not possible, what do you think is the best time to apply for citizenship so that children can continue attending an international school throughout?

(1) I am told that even if the school does not need to get an exemption / waiver, the parents still have to separately file for an exemption? Is that incorrect?

(2) Is that policy applicable across all International Schools? Or does UWC have a special arrangement with the MOE?

I don't know the answer to your first question. I would think not, but I am no longer close to this process (the exemption criteria and process may have changed over the years). On your second question, I would think all schools are subject to the same rules about when a waiver is needed and how to get it. Schools may have discretion over the admission criteria/priority (Tanglin's website is different from UWC's).

Quite frankly, you are probably better off staying on PR for an extended period of time. If you are already a teacher in one of these schools, you should be able to figure all of this stuff out yourself. If you are not a teacher but trying to become a teacher so you can avoid the MOE schools, you may be successful or you may find out you are not as clever as you think you are (many rules have been abused by all parties over the year, and eventually things get clamped down). Of course, you can stay on PR and enroll your kids wherever you wish. Whether that impacts your SC application, we can only speculate (I'm sure it's not an absolute).

In the end, only you can decide what is more important and what you can/cannot tolerate. Best of luck and regards.
