Searching for a job on a DP

Post by rohinisridharan » Thu, 21 Mar 2024 7:24 pm

Hi all. My spouse is here on an EP and I am on a DP. I have recently finished my PhD in Linguistics from an Indian university and I am looking for a job here in Singapore. I am mainly looking for English teaching jobs - school or tutoring both are okay. I would like to know,

1. Is it allowed to do private tutoring jobs on a DP (without an employment visa)?
2. Is it allowed to do an internship or something of that type to gain work experience on a DP?
3. How can I improve my chances to get a job at schools or tutor centers here in Singapore?

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

1. If you receive money for private tutoring, then you are not allowed to do so without employment visa. You cannot work on DP. You need to get a Workpermit along with DP to work in sg.
2. An internship typically means getting a small salary and to gain experience. So still i think it is not allowed to do so in DP.
3. Jobs at schools or tutor centers are facing heavy competition from spouses of expats who work here. I think those jobs are still difficult to get. The only way to improve the chance is to contact the schools regarding their position.
