Ah - the Atlanta Bangkok. It was part of the hippie trail.

Old cities off the highway with old hotels are my favourite.

We are a family of 5 looking for "affordable" family friendly hotels in SG, any recommendations?
The definition of affordable and family friendly is highly individual… but nowadays it’s easy enough to use Expedia or a similar travel site to search for rooms that accommodate all 5 of you, and the reviews often speak to how welcoming they are to families.

Holiday Inn has traditionally been associated with family friendly, but I have had some bad experiences. The worst was the time we stayed in London and they insisted on a maximum 2 persons per room with no exceptions, regardless of age. I could care less and brought 2 inflatable mattresses so that all 4 of us could sleep in one room. The hotel manager got her panties in a twist when she found out about it, claiming it was a fire hazard or some nonsense. After a long drawn out battle, she finally let all 4 of us stay in the room, but was extremely rude and indignant through it all.

Room limits make sense if it's 6 or something. Not for 4 for a family.

Although far from being the best hotel I've stayed at (even in Bali), the Hard Rock Hotel Bali is by far the most enjoyable experience I've had over the last two decades.

The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Nusa Dua was a great stay too (and by far the best room I've ever had), but at the end of the day it isn't the level of luxury that you remember the most but how much you've enjoyed the place.
