Seeking advice on the PR application results.

Post by cherikachethan » Mon, 05 Feb 2024 9:22 am

Hi everyone, I received a rejection for my PR application just 4 months after applying. This is surprising because my previous attempt, made 4 years ago, was pending for at least 14 months. I would like to know your thoughts on this. Should we have waited a few more years before applying again, especially since we just brought our baby to Singapore 8 months ago and she has just started N1? Another point to consider is that there was a 40% increase in salary from April 23 Should we have waited for at least a year so that this increase is reflected in the IRAS?

Profile:-
Age - 33
Occupation - IC designer
Family - 3 members (Wife, Me, and a 2 year old daughter)
Salary - 130K annually and single earning
Master's degree from NTU, Singapore (2016 pass out).
Stay - In Singapore since 2015

The below is just my opinion.

Qn. I received a rejection for my PR application just 4 months after applying. This is surprising because my previous attempt, made 4 years ago, was pending for at least 14 months. I would like to know your thoughts on this.

You length of wait in a pr application will not always have a correlation. Meaning that, if some one has 14 months of waiting time, it does not mean that they will have a better chance than someone who is now at their 7months of waiting time. However, its ok to have a small hope that your application is considered a bit if waiting time is more than a year. But again, longer waiting times does not mean a success. Coming back to your case, you said 14 months of waiting time before 4 years, which is year 2019-2020. That is covid period, where things were slowed down due to circuit breaker period. So a waiting time of 1 or 2 years should not be a big deal in your previous application. If there was no covid 4 years ago, it could also be possible that your previous application could been rejected in 4 months. A rejection of a pr application in 4 months simply means that your profile does not meet the requirements of ica 'AT THIS MOMENT OR FOR THIS YEAR'.

Qn. Should we have waited a few more years before applying again, especially since we just brought our baby to Singapore 8 months ago and she has just started N1?
I think this should not have been a problem. Although it would have been good if you have brought her here right after she was born, still it should be ok. Because, you are the main applicant for the pr application, so your stay is almost 7 to 8 yrs at the point of application, which is an ok length of stay. Although, personally, from my experience reading here and from some real examples, 10yrs of stay is the norm for indians if the profile is not outstanding. Ofcourse, if you have waited few more years, the chance would have been slightly better, but since you waited 4 yrs after previous rejection, this is a good time too.

Qn. Another point to consider is that there was a 40% increase in salary from April 23 Should we have waited for at least a year so that this increase is reflected in the IRAS?
I dont think so. If you have given your salary slip in the application or updated them with your latest salary slip with 40% increase, then it should be fine. They might have accounted this in their evaluation.

Your real drawbacks, in my point of view.
It is really difficult for indians now to get pr and i know the pain. Almost 30000 prs are given each year, and some think the indian quota is 9% of it which will look as if 2700 prs will be granted to indians. That itself will be a false figure in my opinion, as now i feel they want to change the quota back when it was in 70's or 80's where indians were 7% or less, which means 2100 only. And this does not mean that they will give to 2100 indian applicants. In fact, i personally feel that the actual number of prs awarded for indians could be less than 1000 per year (may not be a fact). However, this is for the good future of sg and we should accept it too as it is not good to change the demographics. Hence, this very small quota can affect your chances.

There are many indians like you with similar profile such as a family of 3, single income, around 10k per month, with a local master's degree. Believe me or not, i feel almost 50% of pr applications from indians will have a local master's degree. It used to help 10 years ago for pr, but not nowadays. Your wife not earning will also affect your pr chances. Your salary is already at a good level, so even if you get more than the current salary you chances wont increase much (just my opinion). However, it is good if you increase your salary in your next application if at all it helps. Also, if possible you can make your spouse enter the workforce.

I tried to explain very lengthy because i realized the difficulties for indians only a few years ago. Sometimes by the time someone realizes the difficulty to get pr he/she would have spent almost a decade here without knowing that his/her chances for pr is less than 5%. And they will feel like they have wasted time instead of going to other countries. So once you know the difficulty of getting pr and then try, your disappointment wont be high when you dont get it. However, at least its good to be grateful that sg gave you a career and good earnings.
