PR marrying foreigner

Post by krsgexpat » Wed, 24 Jan 2024 4:21 pm

Hi, I am a PR trying to get solemnized in ROM with a foreigner (with no work pass just a tourist visa)
We wanted to get some insight into your experience regarding the required documents during our document verification appointment at ROM to make declaration.
We looked everywhere in the ROM website pages, and also made multiple inquiries at ROM, but could not get a clear response on this matter :(

On the ROM website (https://www.marriage.gov.sg/civil/marri ... ppointment), it indicates that we only need to bring
- Identification documents for bride, groom and two witnesses, specifically NRICs (for Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident) or passports (for foreigners). Digital copies or photocopies are permitted only for witnesses.

There were additional documents required but only if I belonged to any additional categories such as:
1. PR and foreigner (with work pass)
2. Both foreigners
But as we are a PR and foreigner (tourist visa and no work pass) couple, and we are not eligible in any other categories.

*It just seems odd that as my fiancé is a foreigner, they are not requiring us to bring ANY other documents except identifications.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding this matter?

We just want to make sure we don’t have to prepare any other documents such as
- Letter of No Impediment to Marriage
- Marriage record/marital status/single status document from the relevant country/ countries

Any insights will be helpful.
Thank you!

It has been a while since I went to the ROM, but what you list as required documents is what I recall as well. In my case, I was the foreigner (on EP) marrying a PR. There wasn’t any need for proof anything in my history.

I concur with Mal. All those years ago, I married my local SGC girlfriend and I also was on a standard 30 day Social Visit Pass. In fact, the first 11 years I was here (I was married 10 of them and managed to get a driving license, and fathered two children while still on a Social Visit Pass. Not an issue. The only additional documentation other than identity documents were copies of my US divorce decrees.

Thank you so much for your help! We plan to stay in Singapore for a couple of years at least. My partner will be applying for LTVP and getting a job here, hopefully.

What if they get denied? Do you have a plan B?
