EP renewal

Post by 128go » Sun, 21 Jan 2024 8:48 am

Hi, I just had my EP renewed and approved with IPA approval letter.

Realised the application was requested for 2 years not the max potentially 3.

Is it possible to withdraw this renewal with my existing pass stating valid (has a few month left) and reapply the renewal with 3 year duration?

Wondering if this is an acceptable process with MOM.

Thanks

I would NOT recommend that. I was always told by my employer that asking for more years increases the chance of rejection. At the same time, you can get more years than requested, if they see fit.

Thanks for the replies

So it’s possible to withdraw and reapply, and maybe they will still only give the 2 years or could be 3 years at MOM discretion.

My concern was withdrawing would cause an overall rejection even for the 2 years, would you agree this is unlikely and would just be whether they will give the 3 years vs the 2 years?

Thanks

Is your current pass coming up on three years (2017-2019-2021 and then now due in 2024)?

Either way, does it really matter much? The renewal is outside of COMPASS and the next one will be subject to COMPASS. Renewing under COMPASS isn't any easier as every year goes by. Even if COMPASS is not an issue, your residency rights here are dependent on you remaining employed, not the length of the EP pass.

Re withdrawing and reapplying, they will probably wonder why you care so much. What that means, since you have otherwise been approved, I don't know.

It’s first renewal of 2 year EP.

Noted on your points, they are relevant.

So I think based on the replies, better not to rock the boat, but not impossible to try, though as you say, may raise question on the why.

Thanks

Well, you had not asked that specific question previously. It is certainly possible that withdrawing and reapplying would raise a red flag (even if nothing changes on the application) and that could increase the chances of rejection. If that happens, the employer would have to appeal and submit a good explanation for why they did such a thing.

You really don’t want to play around with MOM.

Nothing's off the table, but would be unwise to do so.
