Police clearance certificate for work permit

Post by Wd40 » Sun, 14 Jan 2024 11:43 pm

I just realized, almost every other country out there, if you want to apply for their work permit, you are required to provide a police clearance certificate, you need to notorize/apostille your marriage certificate/birth certificate, educational documents etc.

However, for Singapore, when I came here in 2009, I received my EP/DPs in just 1 working day and I just provided my passport, marriage certificate, daughter birth certificate copies and copies of my educational documents and experience certificates. Thats all, no notorization or apostille, no police clearance certificate nothing. It was so easy, piece of cake and at that time, I didnt think it was a big deal. But now, when I am exploring other countries, just looking at all these documents requirements, makes me not want to go anywhere. Just want to stay in Singapore as long as it is possible and then go back to India.

I just hate documentation, after living in Singapore and being used to how smooth and online everything is. I wonder why other countries cant be like Singapore?

Once I was trying to explain to my parents that moving to Singapore from Europe was easier for me than potentially moving to another European country could be - because of the bureaucracy, landlords asking for references from the previous landlords (and I had never rented a house before), etc...

My wife will need SG police clearance in order to migrate to the US. Fortunately she doesn’t need it for the time she spent in the US (exempt) or Indo (too young). The US also needs every address she stayed at post-16 y.o. which I can’t fully obtain, but will just do the best we can.

Definitely it’s a pain. I’ve already paid S$725 just to do the first step (petition) which took 10 months. The next step (pr) will take around 6 months and cost about S$900 plus a medical exam of around S$500. Definitely >S$2k and around 2 years, all said & done.
