Prices for laptops in Singapore

Post by albertl » Tue, 12 Apr 2005 10:49 pm

Hello!

I am moving to Singapore from Sweden this summer and I will be in great need of a laptop for my stay. Everyone tells me that the laptops are much cheaper in Singapore then in Sweden so I just wanted to check out what the prices are.

How much does a regular laptop cost in Singapore?

Kindly regards,

Albert Lindblom

Hi Albert,

As a rule of thumb, electronics of all sorts are about 15 to 20 percent cheaper than in Europe.

I bought a fully loaded IBM T42 Thinkpad with 512 meg memory, 80 gig drive, built in wifi and ether, writable CD, and XP pro for about $2300 Sing which is about $1400 US. One of our other moderators is into Dell and I believe he found a similar Dell laptop for about $2000 Sing, $1200 US. You can get cheaper off brands, you can pay more for widescreen, enhanced video, etc. but I think these numbers are pretty good benchmarks for moderately high end machines.

if it's a cheap no-frills laptop you are after. Carrefoure have a range of budget latops, starting at around $1000 for a 1000mhz processor, 256mb ram, 20gig hd, ethernet/modem, cd rom. 14.1" screen, 12 month warranty.

you pay a bit more if you need things like wireless, or dvd burner etc....
