XL Bullies legal in Singapore?

Post by casey5047 » Thu, 04 Jan 2024 10:45 am

Hi guys, not posted for a long time and looking for some advice.

This year, I'll be spending my time between the UK and Singapore.

Back in the UK, I have a couple of XL bullies. Not sure if you've been following the news, but it's not a good time for bullies in the UK right now.

I was wondering if it's possible to bring them to Singapore? I can't see anything online about them being banned etc. They're extremely well-behaved, great with kids etc. I live near the Botanic Gardens and would love to see them playing there.

Please take a look at this link.

Is an XL bully same as an American bulldog? If yes, then they are on the list of banned breeds to bring to Singapore.

Those bullies are banned in the UK and for sure, banned in Singapore.

From the website below: "The XL Bully was responsible for over 50% of the deaths caused by dogs in the UK in the period between 2021 and 2023."

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Doesn’t look good then. I can only say my two bullies are model dogs, great with kids. I’ve talked to a lawyer friend about seeking an exception. One of mine isn’t 100% bulldog - according to a DNA test he’s actually 10-15% Dalmatian. This may allow for a ‘creative’ designation for ID certificate purposes. I’ll let you know how I get on.

You're in for a very tough road as even mixes are not allowed.

Even if you were able to bring them in, the conditions under which they must be kept are rather onerous. And, you could keep only one dog in a non HDB residence.

Noted, thank you. Yep, not going to be easy at all! Fortunately the dogs and I are fighters (not in the actual, physically violent sense - I know the unfair reputation that bullies have! - but more in the Christina Aguilera sense).

To have a fight, you must have a contest. With the Singapore Government, you have no contest, full stop. Even worse if it in black and white as this is. The government is pretty hardcore and will not set any precedence's that might cause discomfort to others or give rise to more "exceptions". You are going to spend a lot of time, effort, money and all you are going to get is zip. It's harsh but it is what it is. Takes a special breed to live here if you are from the US. Both Strong Eagle and I have spent donkey's years here dealing with this type of thing. It doesn't get better.

Well, I was not trying to be brutally blunt but you summed it up pretty well.

casey5047, you should consider a description of Singapore society that PNGNK has coined or borrowed, and that is "hive mind". It's the community that matters above all else, and the individual isn't shit in a hive society.

Once the gahmen decides that something is good for the hive society, and you decide to go against it, you'll be treated like a yellow jacket hornet trying to attack a beehive... you're going to get squashed for upsetting the hive. This hive mind mentality informs and shapes every kind of policy in Singapore, from racial quotas in HDB flats, to the drug death penalty, to parks and greenspace, to the relatively censored press, to persecution of opposition individuals that fly too far from the hive, to the kinds of dogs that can be brought into Singapore, and much more.

It can be totally goddamn irritating to have to deal with this hive mentality, especially if you're getting screwed over in a HOA or some other activity. But it is what it is, and I guarantee that from the perspective of a Singapore customs officer, there is absolutely no way that some pissant expat is going to get his prohibited doggy-woggy into Singapore. There is absolutely no upside for the officer or the hive. And remember, your rights in Singapore exist right up to the point where they conflict with the hive. You need to figure out an alternate path for your beasts.

I'm not an expat, and Vinnie and Lenny are not mere 'doggy-woggies,' but points taken lol.

Sidebar: not sure I agree with the hive society conception. I don't think it's the community that matters above all else in Singapore - all that Asian / Confucian Values stuff is obvious nonsense (an excuse for authoritarians to limit civil rights) - it's the elite and GDP above all else. Elite concerns are conflated with community concerns, as though billionaires and HDB-dwellers are one and the same.

Where does this leave my magnificent beasts, anyway? Watch this space. Things are in motion. One day you may see XL Bullies running around the padang.

I expect that I'll see monkeys flying out of Lee Hsien Loong's ass, while he addresses parliament, first.

Considering people are scared of sleepy golden lab guide dogs on the mrt, there is exactly zero chance. Resistance is futile.

I'm waiting to see how long it takes to have them Rotties put down. You know they had to be flying under the radar to have 4 full grown Rotties.

This gives me hope (although, of course, I prefer the legal route).

What you have to understand, casey, is that that was landed property and not a condo or HDB housing block. I'd be willing to bet they started off with a pregnant bitch and dog and the other two were raised from puppies (or somebody else provided the stud dog and 3 were raised from puppies) within the confines of the landed properties. The detail will come out soon as the locals will CSI them in no time. Watch Hardware Zone - EDMW thread for updates.
