Hello, I'd like to know when is the best time to apply for an LTVP for my husband:
Me (SC)
approaching mid-30s
no degree
SGD 4000/month (starting in 2024)
non-Chinese
Spouse (Western European)
approaching mid-30s
master's degree
SGD 6100++ (converted from euros)
Caucasian
We've been married for about 7 years, no kids. I was working in Singapore pre-marriage so I do have some CPF but have been a housewife since we moved together to his country. I've secured a job and will be moving to Singapore first. My question is, should I start applying for his LTVP after 6 months of employment or would it be best to do so only after a year? Husband will of course be flying down to SG when it's time to do the medical checkup and the appointment but he will be in Europe while I'll be in SG for the 6 months/1 year it will take to show my payslips. In addition, we're worried about the LTVP & PLOC being sufficient enough for the job search and I was wondering if I could apply for a PR for him once LTVP is approved. Especially since we've been married for far more years than the 2 years suggested on the ICA website.
My husband works in tech. But as we live in a low COL city, and he is employed by a local startup, the pay isn't high. He was in Singapore several years ago for about 1.5 years on a TEP (training employment pass) working for a Singaporean government institution. I've seen a comment by someone on this board stating that his SC wife applied for his LTVP and PR (I think) whilst both were still in the UK so I assume that's possible to do even if the applicant is abroad?
Thank you in advance.

Happy New Year. Welcome home
From my scenario I came home with a job and applied for LTVP immediately. My foreign spouse is a homemaker. Thankful to get LTVP+ on my first try. Subsequently she received her PR within the two years we’ve been in Singapore
Good luck to you

Sunjackal is the guy from UK
whose wife applied PR for him while they were in the UK just before they relocated back to SG.
Then his wife applied LTVP the moment they landed in SG ‘cos they weren’t able to apply for LTVP while overseas.
The difference between you and him, Sunjackal already has a SC son.
If you don’t have kids, I highly doubt PR will be approved that quickly if you two haven’t been in SG. LTVP should be able to be approved but for PR, it’s best he has been physically in SG for at least a year or two.

Actually, the guy who successfully did it was a long time regular here and also eventually opened a pub on the Quay called the Juban Stand of which a sizeable number of us frequented his establishment occasionally with up to 14 of us in "The Eagles Gatherings" (which we should revisit now that the 3 years of lockdown are over). His nick here is "Saint" and worked (I think Lloyd's of London) before coming to Singapore with his local wife. Subsequently his wife gave birth to twin boys. Granted that was in 2008 I think. This post in response to my post in 2014 confirms the same.

I guess if OP can afford the application fee, can try to apply PR for spouse while overseas but manage their expectations accordingly.

Wonderful, I was thinking about your experience as I wrote the first post. Read through the posts but figured since I will be earning significantly lower than you it might be a bit of a hurdle. My dad and Thai stepmum have a similar profile to yours just with the ages reversed and minus the time spent in Thailand.

Brilliant. I went back a few pages to look for similar cases but did not go that far back so thank you for the link.
Indeed MOCHS, we will manage our expectations. At this point, I think I will apply for the LTVP at least after getting my first payslip and then the PR much later. I will update the board of any negative or positive results in case it will be useful for any others looking for similar information.

You’re too kind. I genuinely don’t think it’s about salary
But I would recommend you to do LTVP as soon as you can. There quite zero downside whether it’s one or three years I feel as long as you are employed.

On the LTVP application, there is a section that asks if the foreign spouse has private
property overseas. Does anybody know if this will impact the application? Would it be best to dispose of it first before the application? Or just declare and hope for the best?

If you plan to get HDB, you have to dispose of it first and wait X months before buying a subsidized flat.
Don’t remember being asked that question during LTVP application. I lean towards being honest.
