x9200 has made more than 10,000 posts. If you can't get some sense of who this person is via their posts... well... I'd suggest learning to read for meaning.

By comparison, you've made slightly more than 600 posts, and it's painfully clear what your nature and character are like.

Sure, let me put the book I'm reading on the shelf and go through those 10,000 posts.

At the end of the day, you, fax machine, sms and everyone else are just usernames on a backwater internet forum. You are judged by your contributions to individual discussions, not your ancient post history or life outside this forum.

And you're swimming in the same backwater, internet sludge that is the Singapore Expats Forum as the rest of us, izzit? And yet you deign to keep polluting said forum with your irascible, antagonistic, argumentative, hostile, and combative posts. One could surmise that you enjoy being the pimple on the forum's posterior.

Thanks for providing the definition. Not for me - I expect x9200 (named after a fax machine model) may not know what the word means.
You clearly haven't been on the Forum long enough to know who x9200 is or their background. You might want to shut it down now...
Lol, is he famous? Or a big-time gangster (seems like a thinly-veiled threat)? Or does Singapore Expats have a caste system, based on number of posts, that I've just transgressed?

Fax Machine has been rude and belligerent to me in the past (and pedantic), so I like to give it back now and again. It's all good fun, good-natured. He loves it.

I have considered that you might be Tiktok's sock puppet, for both of you bring a truculent attitude to the forums.

There is no "caste system", nor are you judged by the number of posts you have made. Be aware, however, that there are many people on this board who have been here for many years, know a great deal about the changes in Singapore over the years, and have seen the ebb and flow on this website as government policies and economic recessions have changed the mix of board participants. We have gotten to "know" each other over the years.

You deign to correct the grammar of a long time poster and then start to trash him when called for your posts by another long timer. Perhaps you can see how this might not sit well. "It's all good fun, good-natured. He loves it," is your projection.

I close with thoughts about the moderators. Unlike many boards, the mods participate and interact as people, so we will give as good as we take. Second, we try to run this board openly and with as few restrictions as possible. That means folks like Tiktok are free to gripe and moan about the mods (and everything else). And third, moderators here do have the final say as to what constitutes unacceptable behavior.

So please, do stay and have fun. Just remember those usernames are real people.

I know what you mean, and mostly agree. I do think posters who selflessly provide advice here are worthy of respect. For example, I like to give free grammar tips (!). Also, I received some brilliant, detailed replies to an enquiry of mine once - including one from your good self.

However, there are some posters who seem to enjoy scolding people they see as 'entitled' newcomers, so much so they often eagerly (deliberately?) misread situations for more opportunities to do so. But that's the way it is. Life is one big hawker centre. One big Yishun. There are eagles, and there are... tree squirrels.

The thing is, 'caste systems' can evolve unconsciously. For example, if a long-time poster is rude towards a newcomer, nobody will say anything (fact). The other way round - and some of the moderators / veteran posters will schoolmarm the newcomer. It's not an even playing field.

In other words - who will moderate the moderators?

Do we believe in the rule of law? Or the law of the jungle? Are we Thomas 'Tom' Bingham? Or Thomas Shelby?

Or are you just another troll who's been hiding under the bridge for some time and only now are revealing your true colours?

As far as who will moderate the moderators, Both SE and I were here when we made the decision to let one moderator go. Was a number of years ago but it was done as it needing doing. We have our own forum that we use when discussing matters of the board or members of same. We don't always agree either.

There is a considerable difference in providing advice in response to a question asked and just taking it upon yourself to nitpick somebody's misspelling or bad use of English/grammar. That's not helping anybody but just causing animosity. My spelling is atrocious. Years ago, I could type 80 wpm on the Pitmans scale using the early 1960's IBM Selectric 'golfball' typewriter but today 60 years from when I was able to do that, I'm lucky to do 30 and with my fair share of errors. Sadly, today I can think faster than I can type error free. Used to be my fingers could keep up. So please remember we give advice to our members on the topic that they are on about. Now how they write it. Remember, our regulars are from all over the world and probably less than half use English as their mother tongue. Peace.

You're just exemplifying the double standards again? When Fax Machine insults me, he's a great lad, a forum legend, but when I give something back (with far more wit, I might add), I'm a 'troll.' As Franz Kafka might say, 'this is oppressive and nightmarish!'

Alas, let's move on. I say 'tomato,' you say 'potato'.' The IRA and the British Army both had good points. My goal for 2024 is to encourage everybody on the forum to meet up in Hong Lim Park and sing 'Imagine' by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Peace be upon Lou Reed.

There are some who can truly do the math in their heads.
Like the savant from Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman.
Haven't seen that one. Worth a watch I assume?

Casino's will ban you for even just having a good run of luck. The house hates losing.

The most consistent way to make money in a casino is to launder money. I was at a dinner with the chap who ran the Darwin Casino security - they knew exactly who was doing it up to the legal limit (AUD10,000 in Australia). He told me of an older Japanese woman who would come in every night they were open for YEARS with $10,000 in cash, buy some 10k of chips and mess around for a few hours and cash in just under $10,000 chips for a bank cheque on the casino. 99% certain this was money laundering. I asked him what he thought her cut was and he estimated $500 but wasn't sure.
Exactly. Seems to really go against the principle of such an establishment - the whole point is that just as you can lose big you can also win big. If they'll let you, that is.

Buy $10,000 worth of chips, then play the $5 blackjack table for a few hours... I could see how the casino might become suspicious.
Would take more than a few hours... probably have to camp there overnight which would really set alarm bells off

‘In’ not ‘from,’ and ‘starring’ would be better than ‘with.’

Not sure if you've noticed, but this is an online forum. Grammar really doesn't matter here so long as others can understand you.
