Hello, we are preparing to move end of February from Czech Republic to Singapore and my search for moving companies has so far not been successfull. I found a few local companies but they barely speak english, and I did not manage to get any quotes at all after weeks of back and forth.
We decided not to move any furniture, except maybe my herman miller chair. We will have a ton of electronics (hi-end monitors for professional work that cannot be easily re-purchased for example), some specialized tools (for servicing and repairing lenses, think screwdriver size, but a full drawer of those). I also have a huge collection of vintage lenses for photography and cinema that I need to move. I also have a guitar and a bunch of books for kids in our native language.
That is it — no furniture, no pets, no vehicles. My understanding is that all the relocation companies just use sea freight to move your stuff which should take around a month, so i was hoping I can send my goods off, wly to SG and receive it there myself after a month or two.
The issue is, when I'm trying to figure out what to sell, it's really tough to understand what is worth shipping and what is not, since I have no idea about the cost of shipping, therefore I am not sure if it's cheaper to sell and re-purchase, or if to ship.
Before I turn to simply messaging companies from first page of google, maybe someone who moved from EU to SG can suggest a moving company they used and shed some light on how much does it typically cost to move a certain weight or volume of items.
I am flying to SG myself in January, and thought to pack a few bags of most valuable items to take with me, but it comes down to be around 500USD/30kg of checked luggage, which seems really expensive, plus I would not risk to check certain items like my fragile lenses.
One more follow up question I had was import tax. As per my googling if I am moving personal belongings due to relocation they are not going to be taxed at all, but it would be great to confirm with someone who actually did it.
Thank you all for reading this!
