Drowning cases on the rise

Post by abbby » Thu, 28 Dec 2023 3:23 pm

Monsoon season's probably not the time to swim at the beaches? I would say the shallow sides are fine so long as you don't cross the deep ends. What's your advise on swimming in the beaches/sea, for those who frequently swim in one?

Recreational swimmers often underestimate the strength of a current. Even strong swimmers have a hard time swimming in rough waters. I'd stay away altogether. If you must, I'd adhere closely to posted signage and make sure there's a lifeguard on duty.

I prefer pools anyway... never appreciated the stinging eyes from saltwater and getting sand all over everything.

Yup, crocs. Not the plastic footwear variety, I mean saltwater carnivorous reptilians, aka salties.

it appears as if they're spreading their habitat from originally up north to all along the east coast.

Thats pretty scary. Will they creep up to East Coast beach?

They've already been spotted a few times at the beach along East Coast. Last sighting was that 3m one, sunning on a beach, near Marina I believe, a couple of months back. And one was spotted at the other end of East Coast a few years ago, near NSC if I recall. That one not quite as big.

Still, I reckon it's safe to say that for every croc that was spotted, there's probably a bunch that went unseen.
