Assessing my citizenship application chances:

Post by kdjafhlskaer » Tue, 21 Nov 2023 9:00 am

I’m a 35 PR caucasian male, married to a 35 Chinese woman. We have 3 kids, ages 7, 6, and 2. 2 girls and 1 boy. We are both in the financial industry earning ~150K a year each. We used to own a condo but sold it because we are getting housing benefits from our work, and we do own a car. The two bigger kids go to an MOE school.

My wife was a PR for many years (I think around 9) and recently got her citizenship application approved for herself and our 3 kids. This was her 2nd application for herself and the first for our kids. It took a little over 2 years to receive an answer.

I have been a PR for about 2.5 years now, and my wife sponsored me. My questions are:

1. What are my chances of getting approved in your opinion?
2. Should I apply separately or should my wife sponsor me like she sponsored our kids and my PR a few years back?

1. Caucasian is a race, not a nationality. You need to give us this vital information in order to gauge the chances.

2. General advice is to apply citizenship after being a PR for 3 to 5 years.

Being sponsored by a citizen is better but should wait a while before applying. Otherwise it would look too obvious to ICA that you want citizenship ‘cos your wife is now a newly minted citizen.

Thank you for your response.

OK, got it- I'm originally from Ukraine but lived in the UK most of my life.

Thanks again!

They look at your passport, not where you stayed. Ukrainian passport I assume? You didn’t mention how long you have been living and working in SG.

Just remember that “Others” race has smallest quota.

If your wife and family are citizens now then decent chance as long as your wife sponsors. But as I said, wait a while before applying as your wife just got citizenship approved.
