Time taken for PR approval/rejection

Post by Pfr346 » Fri, 03 Nov 2023 10:18 pm

Hello everyone.

Is there a higher chance that a PR application will be approved if it is pending for a longer period of time.

For example of an application is pending for over a year, is it more likely to be approved. Are there many people who have had pending applications for over 9 months or 1 year and still get rejected?

I'm sure there's no guarantee, but I want to ask if there is a general pattern or not.

Also if an application is rejected. Is it more commonly rejected within the first 6 months?

Thank you all in advance.

Hi, in short to answer your question, if the application is pending for a longer period of time there is a small chance that they are still considering your application, hence, quite some chance for approval. Kindly note that i am not saying, it will be approved if application pending for longer time, just saying that some chances of approval can be expected, as it is not a straight rejection within few months. Nonetheless, longer waiting time can produce both approval or rejection which is said a thousand times in this forum. All it takes is just one day for your application to be rejected no matter how long it has been pending.

Yes, there are many pending applications for over 1 year and still get rejected. I am not sure what is your ethnicity, but this generally happens to a lot of indian applicants. Common rejections that happen within 6 months are those that straight away dont meet ica's requirements, so it will come out as rejected at 4 to 6 months. The rest of the 'cat on the wall' cases may get dragged for god knows how long. It can be due to various reasons like larger applicants, backlog of applications, lesser quota etc.

In short rejections can happen before 6months or after 1 year or even after 1.5 years. I have quoted you an example in this forum which is just recent enough, where one guy was rejected after 19months. There are some cases which have been rejected after 20 or 21months too (he is a srilankan guy, who is here for 10years or more, unfortunately could not remember his id)

Hello All,

Unfortunately, my PR got rejected after waiting for 19 months. It was my first time ever and have been living in Singapore since 2013. I applied with my elder son and wife (could not include my younger son as he was born post applying but have intimated the ICA and they had advised to wait for the outcome before i include him as well). The rejection letter says 'we have evaluated your application carefully, taking into consideration all the documents you have submitted'.

- Is this normal update that people get from ICA if their application is not successful?
- I had updated ICA on my salary increment about a month back so they should be aware of this change, can i still appeal?
- Do i need to wait at least for 6 months before i think of applying again?

Hoping to see your suggestions.

Thanks!

Thankyou hopeislife. That's a really good answer, very easy to understand.

I have a follow up question.

What time period would you say the bulk of applications are rejected and approved.

Would it be 9-12 months normally to get a rejection/approval for most people? Apart from the quick rejection in 4-6 months.

The approval of a PR (Permanent Residency) application depends on various factors, including the specific immigration policies and procedures of the country in question. It's important to note that different countries have different criteria and processing times for PR applications.

In general, a longer processing time does not necessarily indicate a higher chance of approval. The length of time an application is pending can be influenced by factors such as the complexity of the case, the volume of applications being processed, changes in immigration policies, and administrative factors.

While there may be cases where applications are pending for an extended period before approval, there are also cases where applications are approved relatively quickly. Likewise, there are instances where applications may be rejected after a long processing time.

As for the timing of rejections, it can vary widely and there is no specific "common" timeframe for rejection. Applications can be rejected at any point during the processing period, whether it's within the first few months or after a longer period.
