PR approval chance

Post by Hope0104 » Mon, 23 Oct 2023 10:04 pm

Hello,

I've been a member of this forum for a while. Firstly, thanks to the Admins and everyone for sharing valuable information :D

My wife and I have been living/working in Singapore since Apr-2020. Our first application was in May-2022 and was rejected in Oct-2022. Early this year I got a salary hike of about ~20%, so we are considering re-apply it (1 year after the rejection)

So, I would like to seek your input/advice:
  • What is our approval chance? Appreciate any advice on how to improve our profile
  • My wife's sister is Singapore PR. I have a relative who is Singaporean. Will it make any difference if my wife or I is the main applicant?
  • We're expecting a baby by the middle of next year, shall I wait? My understanding from reading other posts is including an infant in the application won't make any difference, unless I'm wrong
  • Besides the bachelor's degree mentioned in my EP visa, I also have an online master degree's from a small university in the US, which you can't find the school name in the university drop-down list of MoM. Any harm in adding that master's degree into my PR application? I'm afraid ICA officer might question why that degree is not listed in my EP visa

Here is our profile:

Husband
Ethnicity: Vietnamese
Age: 33
Visa: EP
Basic Salary SGD120K p.a + variable bonus
Occupation: software consultant in a local bank
Work experience: 3.5y in Singapore for the same company
Education: bachelor's degree from a top university in Vietnam

Wife
Ethnicity: Vietnamese
Age: 33
Visa: SPass
Basic salary 50k SGDK p.a + variable bonus
Occupation: Logistics industry
Work experience: 3.5y in Singapore for the same company
Education: bachelor's degree from a Taiwan university

Thanks so much,
Hope0104

You have to understand you have not been here for long enough that would be ideal for a vietnamese profile

going to be very tough
  • My wife's sister is Singapore PR. I have a relative who is Singaporean. Will it make any difference if my wife or I is the main applicant?
Might be good to have as an aspect, but might not be enough to give approval
  • We're expecting a baby by the middle of next year, shall I wait? My understanding from reading other posts is including an infant in the application won't make any difference, unless I'm wrong
I don't know which post makes you feel that including infant wont make any difference. Definitely it is better to apply along with kids in your application, as it can be seen as a family unit, which sg likes. However, including your kid in a pending pr application is not possible. Many here submit an application as a couple, and also plan for the birth of the kid such that it happens in 'pr pending' duration, thinking that it can increase their chances when updating their kid's birth. This is generally not going to help much, in my opinion

As long as it is not a bogus degree, you can always add it to your application. Just make sure you upload the legit certificate for your masters given by the overseas institute. However, whether this overseas degree will be recognized or valued by them is a different matter. Did you do this masters after you got the EP visa?

This occupation is not much in demand i guess, from what i read on this forum. Especially IT in bank is generally not looked as favourable. Although one cannot be sure if it is going to be a negative in your case.
Work experience: 3.5y in Singapore for the same company
Again, not much time in sg given your ethnicity

Hi there, i am also just a passer by like you and just thought of giving you my opinions as above, which could be as any one else's based on the information from this forum. May be the moderators can gauge you better than me. You have to understand the reality of pr for vietnamese. I have read ten's of profiles on this forum, where there are many viets who have studied since their primary schooling here and working here for few years, yet they cant get pr (while i believe such profiles will get in near future). So you have to think about the difficulty level. Your jobs are also not in a demanded field. The family income looks decent but that alone wont be enough. Anyway, you can still apply and try. I dont know if any of my words look negative here, but i wanted to explain the reality to you, knowing that sometimes we can be delusional in our first few years in sg regarding pr, thinking it is somewhat possible to attain. I too was like that in early years, until reality sets in. So i always try to clarify to people who think similarly whenever i get a chance, so that they wont be disappointed after many years of stay. Just stay longer, integrate, contribute, build your family while applying, thats all one can say.

I mostly agree with hopeislife.

You cannot add newborn babies to an ongoing PR application because they did not “exist” yet when the initial PR application was made. Just wait for them to be born and apply as family unit.

If immediate family member (spouse, parents, children) is Singaporean, ICA might pay attention.

If extended family member/relative (cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, etc) is Singaporean, ICA most likely would not bother paying attention to it.

Having a sibling as PR or SC may not hold any weight. Singapore needs family units to produce children. Incest is illegal, ‘nuff said.

If you have Chinese ancestry and can prove with birth certificate, can try under Chinese race instead of Others race.

Hi hopeislife and MOCHS,

Thanks for your detailed and straightforward answers, much appreciated.

Just a side question: will a local university degree help my profile? For my career development, I'm looking for a graduate program in Singapore.

Besides longer stay, increasing salary, having kid, integrating. Any other action/activity I can do to make my profile more appealing to ICA?

Thanks,
Hope0104

You study because you want to, not because you want to get PR. Please get your priorities right. Many foreigners study graduate programmes here all the time, what makes you think it’ll make you any different?

ICA will never tell us what they look at to grant PR. You are looking so desperate right now that you’re trying to “game the system”. ICA can see you’re being desperate if you keep applying so soon after a rejection without substantial improvements to your profile.

The advice is to just relax and stop trying to find artificial ways to improve your profile. Just assume PR won’t happen and always have a plan B aka immigrate to another country. When your kid is born, just re-apply and don’t worry so much. Who knows, if you don’t fret about it, maybe PR might come to you.

Don’t use agencies by the way, they are just a waste of your money. If you have never volunteer or donate before, don’t even bother. It’s very obvious if you start those right now, you are only doing that to get PR.

Hi MOCHS,

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I know agencies are just scams. And you're absolutely right, I will focus on the priorities (family, career, etc.) and take PR application like buying a lottery ticket

Again, thanks for taking the time to clarify all my query.
