Adding newborn son to PR application

Post by bonvoy888 » Tue, 17 Oct 2023 11:52 am

Hi All,

Our PR application has been pending for some 13 months now. We applied as a family (me, wife and daughter), and the application has been pending for so long that we had a baby boy in the interim!

I emailed ICA to update them of his birth, with relevant documents, and asked them to add him on to our family application.

They replied to say "You may submit a fresh application for him after your family’s current application has been finalised."

This seems a bit odd? Surely that's an own goal, to potentially grant us all PR but leave our son off it? I juts hope that they won't reject the application on the basis that we "haven't" included our son... Probably over thinking!

Anyone else been in this situation?

Cheers

If you want to overthink it, then overthink the right way.

"You may submit a fresh application for him after your family’s current application has been finalised."

For all you people who like to try to read between the lines on everything (which 99% of the time is incorrect) this is a good one to read with a positive note (not saying that is it) but if your quote is actually a "QUOTE" and not paraphrased, then what I've highlighted would be akin to saying what I've said for years on here. Unless it is something that has happened prior to the application date, it doesn't count. So, in order to add to the application the baby would have had to be born before the application submission. But the wording of the reply, if correct, would give me the indication at approval was pending. e.g., 'you may' 'for him' & 'after current application has been finalised. If the family not approved then you wouldn't be able to file a fresh application 'for him'. At least is doesn't read negatively at any rate. Just keep fingers crossed and prayers & donations to the deity of your choice.

The way you say it looks like as if the baby boy dropped from the sky without your knowledge. Ofcourse, you have planned for it. I know many couples who had first child as a daughter, so they try for a second child with hopes of getting a boy so that it can increases their chances when they apply pr. And there are many others like you who plan for pregnancy after submitting a pr application, with hopes of increasing their pr chances which is in progress by updating a new baby born, especially if its a boy. ICA may know these situations O:) so they may see your case in a similar way. Its not wrong to have a baby in due course of a pending pr, but just saying they know these games.

Many try these routes, not knowing that this is the reply they would get when asking them to add their kid.

Well since one of the mods have commented on this, i would like to add an opinion like most here. The reply you get is given by the 'service' officer who deals with replying the emails and queries. When they check your pr application on their screen, the result of the pr application may not be stated on their screen, but may have information like e.g. 'under processing'. Even if they can see it, and its either rejected or approved, they will still give this default template "You may submit a fresh application for him after your family’s current application has been finalized." This for me looks like if your current application is approved, then you can sponsor for your kid, which is just the usual information anyone would say. From their message, i feel the point is "cannot add a new applicant in existing pr application and their statement is not an indication of anything positive or negative".

Sure, they wont reject based on the reason that you left your son off. But dont hold your breath too much, as pr is getting quite difficult these days. Your length of stay is good which can favour you, but still since you are in others list it can go negative too. There are many viet applicants who have been here since schooling for more than 15 yrs but still cant get it. If you dont get this time, next time apply with your son which could have a very good chance.
