I am not sure if I'm allowed to do it on this forum, but our family is relocating back to Australia in December. And exactly as this conversation thread is talking about, the car lease price will continue to go up. Coincidentally, due to our relocation, I am also starting to find someone to take over our car lease until September 2025. I got it for a good rate last September, and I am happy someone else can benefit from this good rate too in view of the crazy prices now. But I 'm not sure if I can post the availability of this car (and the details) here. Can anyone kindly advise me?

I find it completely absurd, and the fact that most of us aren't batting an eyelid because we've seen this coming is equally worrying.

It’s not worrying to me. I have personally never owned a vehicle during my 2.5 decades living here, despite being a former car enthusiast. I lost all interest in car ownership after seeing the ridiculous prices. I am perfectly content taking public transport — driving here is not a pleasure anyway. I know this for fact because my wife owns a car which I drive on occasion, and the number of inconsiderate jerks on roads here is greater than the number of nice ones.
For anyone that feels they absolutely have to own a car… pick another country. Driving in Malaysia (for example) is far more pleasurable than here, and the local branded vehicles are every bit as affordable as any other country, despite what it might be lacking in quality, fit and finish.
Interesting that you refer to it as her car and not both of yours... this whole time I was under the impression that you both traveled by BMW.

Having a car is convenient, especially if you have kids or dogs. But absolutely not worth the price now.
The fact that Mercedes is the top selling brand tells you the main reason behind car ownership - status signalling.
Absolutely. And it's sad because it's absolutely meaningless in SG... everybody goes broke trying to look rich.

Bloody 'ell! We actually agree on something! LOL
I was thinking the exact same thing, I had look up and see if the planets had aligned or what other freakishly rare phenomena had taken place and caused this supernatural event.
Who's the troll now?

It’s not that interesting, in our 3 decades together, we never merged our finances like traditional spouses do, and we never will… until death do us part. And, why would we, money is one of the top causes of marital issues. I don’t get why couples feel the need.

The Cat B COE price has been more than the car prices for many years now .
It was already triple the OMV of my ' low end ' bimmer in 2014.
Just that it's become quite a bit more ridiculous in the last couple of years.

Yes, it is getting more and more ridiculous in recent years.
It is quite sad that we can't keep our treasured cars beyond the 10th years unless we renew the COE.
Seen many good cars being scrapped for little money are just too wasteful.
