EP to DP after resigning + new EP application

Post by asiaexpat1990 » Tue, 03 Oct 2023 11:29 am

Hello beautiful people,

I need some guidance and googling isn't helping here. I've resigned from my job with the last date being 19th October. I'm married and my husband is on EP, so I can stay in Singapore after the last working day as well. I need help with the below -

1. When and how do I apply to convert my EP to a DP?
2. I'm looking for jobs and if I receive an offer before last date of 19th October, how does it work? If new EP is approved before 19th, then I understand. But if it isn't, then what happens - I stay on DP for the time it takes for the new EP to be approved?

Please help!

When your EP is canceled you will receive a 30 day SVP (social visit pass). As soon as the EP is canceled have your spouse apply for the DP under his EP. Should receive it in a couple of days. If the new position comes through, then just apply for the EP. The EP will automatically outrank and cancel the DP application if the EP is approved. Not an issue. If the EP doesn't come through you just stay on the DP until you find another position or your spouse's job status changes (doG forbid it doesn't)!

Thanks so much for this answer, it really helps!

Does the order of events matter here? A new company is going to apply for an EP for me by next week, but chances of getting that processed by 19th October are low. So while that EP application is in process, do I apply for DP right after current EP is cancelled? Or do I get the SVP and wait for the EP to be processed within the 30 days that I have?

Never gamble with something that isn't a 100% sure thing. Sure the EP is probably a sure thing but anything with humans in the process can still screw it up and leave you stuck with a spanner in the works. Believe me, it's not nice between ICA & MOM. So, in any case, the SVP IS guaranteed and is issued upon cancellation of the previous EP. Good for 30 days. What with the newer credentials being required for EPs now, don't take a chance especially as the newness is also new for the MOM as well. There are a lot of civil servants that shouldn't be! As soon as the SVP is issued, have your spouse apply for the DP ASAP. That should be issued in a matter of a day or two. If, in the meantime your new EP is approved it takes precedence over the SVP and/or DP and will automatically cancel either/or. Just like getting the PEP will automatically cancel the EP and PR will cancel them all. Hierarchy takes control. EP & DP are not the same so it's not an issue. If both applications are in at the same time. Even if the DP is issues for only one day and the EP is approved the next not a problem. Hopefully you will get a new EP in short order.

Example: EP can be applied and will automatically cancel the DP but the DP cannot be issued until the more powerful EP has been cancelled by the last employer.
