Applying for Work VISA with DUI case

Post by NikJohn » Mon, 18 Sep 2023 11:08 pm

I have been caught with DUI recently. There was no jail time, I paid 100$ fine and it was over. Now i have an opportunity to work in singapore, but before proceeding any further, i wanted to know if it's possible to get a work visa with a DUI case in my record.

It's not a criminal offense so I don't think it will impact anything.
But don't take it to the bank.

Thank you for responding.
In my country (india) it is considered as a criminal offense. My BAC was only 50mg (allowed is 30 mg), therefore i got off with a fine.
I've gone through similar topics and i've seen people mention, MOM immediately rejects a DP applicant if they've been convicted for a criminal offense. Is this the same case for EP as well ?

I'm guessing it would depend on how long it's been with an otherwise clean record. I had a DUI in the US not long before I came to Singapore back in 1982. However, as I worked in the O&G industry offshore I only live here on a standard 30 days SVP for 4 weeks at a time and then returned after spending two months offshore. It wasn't till I left the O&G industry and got an office job in Sg that I needed an EP, which was duly granted without issue or even questioned. But that was 8 years after arriving in Singapore. Times have changed. You buys yer ticket and takes yer chances, as the old sayin' goes.
