Hi folks, for those who have had their PR approved, could you please provide some guidance on what to include in achievements and innovation section of the PR application? If you work in IT, how do you go about highlighting your achievements? I am planning to emphasize the following:
- How my contributions have created an impact and consequently led to an increase in revenue.
- How my contributions have benefited Singapore (for instance, I worked for a renewable energy firm and helped automate their business processes which led to increased efficiency gains and revenue).
- My promotions and bonuses.
- I don't have volunteering experience but I have done some volunteering activities for my company. I am not sure if that counts as a volunteering experience and that I can mention it in this passage
- Professional certifications
Does it make sense to include the above points from different companies and projects I have worked on in Singapore? How should I structure my answer to this question? Do I need to get a testimonial from the employer for the PR application along with this?
Any advice on drafting a compelling response would be greatly appreciated.
Disclaimer: The following are just my thinking and insights. They are not facts and i dont encourage anyone to blindly accept it.
If you are from the favoured race, you can just leave the Achievements and innovation section blank, if you want. Or you can just state a few sentence that you think are the achievements in your career. If you are from the unfavoured race (like you and me), i dont think it matters much even if you write anything in this achievements section. Because, every person applying for pr (especially us indians) would write a few paragraphs to make it look like their achievements are bigger. Every person might have contributed and achieved something in their work and would highlight everything. So in general, it might be very difficult to say which applicant's achievement is greater, as it would look like more than 80% of applicants have similar achievements. You want to say about your patents? Well, there are many people who will put similar certifications, awards, publications and what not. If your achievements are in the demanded occupations list, may be it will have an effect. However, just because you are in a demanded job, example say machine learning, it does not mean that you would be preferred. It also depends on the company you work and whether that machine learning project's product or output is serving the country's objective in some way.
But if you ask me, i would say just write whatever you think are the contributions or achievements you did in your job. It need not be several paragraphs, but few bullet points may be enough. Even if you want to write it like in a cover letter format, try to make sure most of the content in it is regarding your actual achievement instead of boasting too much. In short, i would say you can write whatever you feel is justifiable for your own conscience as an achievement that you did.
