One thing i dont really understand from this forum, is why citizens of developed nations want to apply sg pr? Most likely they are not going to convert to SGC, so at least it can be given to those who are more likely to settle here for ever.
I would put it in this order for most:

#1 - job mobility
#2 - CPF employer contributions
#3 - access to HDB resale flats
#4 - lower ABSD
#5 - lower MOE fees

The rest is typically less compelling, but it depends on individual circumstances. This is why I’ve often said there should be something in-between EP and PR. This could include:

#1 - job mobility
#2 - mandatory SRS contributions
#3 - 30% ABSD instead of 60%
#4 - MOE fees equal to ASEAN-level

There seems to be plenty of room for something in-between, but I suspect it’s not a priority because they want only high flyer expats who can contribute what is needed and get out… and citizen wannabes who have promise and fit the mold, to fill the baby deficit.

I’d suggest anyone caught in-between have a strong plan B.

Also for self-employment/business ownership. All is very simple for PRs/SCs and not so for the rest.

When they introduced PEP I thought that was the in-between. Not sure if it's worked out that way.

My main reason for applying for PR was being able to stay here permanently with my spouse with minimal uncertainty. The rest of the list were good to have but that was the biggie at the time.

My SO and I were not married when I moved here, so that wasn’t an option for me. I had to embrace uncertainty, overcome adversity and find a way to survive. In my case, I moved here without anything: no job, no family, no place to stay. The first couple of years were the hardest… no way I would have lasted without my SO. Although living abroad has a certain allure, after the first 6 months, homesickness starts to set in — especially being jobless, like I was. Looking back, I’m surprised I made it.
