Sponsorship Withdrawal, LTVP

Post by Prosper88 » Tue, 29 Aug 2023 6:05 pm

Hi Guys,
I need some help with my questions on “LTVP Sponsorship Withdrawal.” Currently my foreign wife is holding a LTVP under my sponsorship. I would like to know can I withdraw my sponsorship from her?
what will the procedure be?
and can she get another Singapore citizen or PR to be her sponsorer? Because I saw our parliament just set a new law stated:
While the general rule is that foreign spouses should renew their LTVP under the sponsorship of their local spouse, those who are unable to do so can seek sponsorship from other Singaporeans or PRs

This is not new. The article you quoted was from March 2021. Withdrawing sponsorship is sure to raise red flags as it is tantamount to forcing your spouse out of the country. It will possibly be denied unless you can show in-process divorce proceedings.

Are you trying to pull a fast one?

You can’t cancel without your spouse’s consent either.
We would like to clarify that the Singaporean spouse cannot unilaterally cancel the LTVP held by the foreign spouse without the latter's consent.

ICA requires both the Singaporean spouse-sponsor and foreign spouse to attend an interview to assess the cancellation request.

Sounded like it to me. Good find. Answered his question head on. Props!

Why would you ever want to do that?

Exactly. Definite red flag move. Can't imagine anyone doing that to their spouse.

Quite a lot of foreigner wives from third world countries married to SC males don’t know their legal rights here and are often exploited by their hubbies.

Combined with the fact they probably don’t know English, might be unknowingly saying “yes” to pass cancellation.

While I'm the first to diss Singaporean men who do this sh*t, let us also not forget the flip-side of the same coin, e.g., mail order brides or brides of fortune who come here looking for a rube to marry so as get PR and access to subsidies and CPF of the spouse. That also happens with alarming frequency as well, especially with the Asian penchant for having to marry above your class if at all possible. The local Chinese Males are the worse victims of this as they have no one to marry as they are at the bottom of the social ladder locally, so are susceptible to the wiles of comely ladies from the PRC & VN, who, in their own country maybe be poor but the Singaporean Male becomes attractive only for what they can con the guy into. I feel sorry for ICA officers here because of that. They become damned if they do and damned if they don't. :-k ](*,)

^ True. This recent case comes to mind. Very obvious the lady is trying something funny with ICA.
