Applying Work while on DP? Is it really hard?

Post by michiii06 » Tue, 22 Aug 2023 12:53 pm

Hello everyone, previous EP holder, decided to take a break from work since it's affecting my physical and mental health. :( Now on DP for 3 months and planning to look for a job soon.

I've read in some posts that finding work while on DP is difficult. Employers still prefer those who are holding a work pass. I came from an IT background and worked here in SG for more than a decade. During my time off, I took courses and certifications to enhance my skillset. Not sure if it will help.

Anyone here who successfully got a job while on dependent pass? Appreciate if you can share your experience and some tips. Just want to set my expectations before I start applying again, thank you.

I think as per the current requirements, there is no difference between yourself on a DP vs anyone else on an EP, because there is no provision for a DP LOC anymore.

Previously it was easier as DP LOC was not subject to quotas.

As for what to expect, unless you're in one of those employee starved industries or in a niche industry, expect to send out 100s of CVs.

DP's are still hired. It all depends on what skillset you are bringing to the Table and how much demand that skillset has in the market vs the Talent available for it.

Example if you are working in Cyber Sec, AI/ML, Data Analytics etc to name a few then chances are you will get responses. If you are working on other IT stuff etc which is also available locally then chances for getting a call are less.

Your qualifications will speak for themselves. If you are on DP, you will still be considered.
