Nobel thought, but with the country's self-propagation problems (continuing falling birth rates) it would only heighten that issue to the point that every first pregnancy would become a high risk one.
How so?
Think about it. As it is now, the age of marriage is creeping up closer and closer to the 38 mark. And the kids are still living at home as don't want to marry or have a family until "they can afford it" - those who actually want kids and not poodles they can shunt off to the pound when they get tired of them. So instead of them buying a 3 room flat from the HDB (2 BR) They will need to buy a four room flat and allowing for statistical purposes (which for all intent is 50:50 boy/girl splits) They will need 3 bedrooms. This will drive up the price of that first/only flat at least, if not more than 100K. Will need to live at home that much longer and put off marriage & Pregnancy that much later.
I hadn't thought about it that way at all, you're right. Singaporeans are getting married later and later, the government knows this. They should be smarter with their policies.

Pregnancies after 35 are already considered geriatric.

Smart Singaporeans have seen the leases NOT being renewed in places like Geylang Bahru landed properties and are anxiiously watching the old SIT flats in Jln Bahagia and Tiong Bahru area. This shows that the govt is unlikely to renew HDB leases (at least this govt). All the WP has to to win is promise to immediately and irrevocable top up all leases by 99 years.

This country shits on young people to win the silver generation vote. This has been proven again and again.

Yup. But the older generation is undeniably dying off, there's a new generation of voters coming of age. Once this happens, there will be no redemption for the PAP.

And if they can't? The incumbents will come right back in power.

Eh, I have some reservations about WP's proposals too. And VERS is still a work in progress. It will be interesting, that's all I'll say. We signed the lease agreements with full understanding, so we can't exactly kpkb now, just hope for the best.

Hm.. actually the most vocal anti-establishment people seem to be the old uncles and aunties. The most outspoken parties seem to have a hard time attracting youth involvement, and tend to harp on old rivalries. I think what you say is true in a way, once the 'legacy' leaders are no longer in the picture, perhaps new parties will form. But if I had to point to a (at least partially) youth driven party at this point, I'd say it's PAP.

I must disagree. From what I've seen, while the PAP has failed to involve the youth, WP has quite a number of younger folks involved in its many initiatives, and has/had quite a few younger members in its party.

Unlike the older generation, the youth's disapproval of the PAP comes in the form of whispers.

I honestly have faith that the leases will be renewed - after all, it would be incredibly wasteful to just demolish all the homes.

Other parties don't have the reach and resources. If they can improve that, great. The more young people involved, the better.

It would be a waste. And I don't fancy living in a new building if it's 40 storey. Heights make me queasy.

That's true. Unfortunately they receive no funding (obviously) so reach is limited. That being said I've always believed that good ideas speak for themselves. Time will separate the good leaders from the bad.

LOL! You'd probably hate to know that most of the tallest buildings sway during windy days. Imagine being up high when that happens!

I've felt that in one of the suntec towers. I was seated by a window, trying not to look out, gripping my chair the whole time.
