While it is true that PDFs can be edited, the beauty of the format is that it is encoded in a way that it looks the same in any computer. Unlike word, where for example, if you don't have the font which the author intended, the document can look totally different. So the appeal is not in whether or not it can be edited, but that it will retain it's format.

Secondly, it's not like jpgs or other scanned documents cannot be edited, if someone is good enough with computers to edit pdfs, they are probably IT aware enough to edit scanned documents too.

In the end, it just comes down to whether or not someone intends to break trust (or the law, where applicable) by editing documents. PDFs were never intended to be uneditable. One can easily create fake documents, whether or not they're in soft copy or hard copy. Its the intent that counts.

As for the person who commented about the pdf not uploading - there could be too many possibilities of why it was not accepted by the system. As someone else mentioned, try other ways by the re-encoding the pdf (i.e re scan the document, or compress it, or Google the various options available. Sometimes, pdfs encode an 'unacceptable' string, or there was corruption during the encoding, or something else, you just can't say.

Now, numerous programs have the ability to edit PDF files so I think it's loosing it's luster as they can be edited.
I always thought the whole selling point of PDFs were that they were not able to be altered.

I had this issue before. The error happened when I use "Microsoft print to PDF" to create pdf file. After I use cutepdf printer then the file was able to be uploaded.

Some PDF files are editable so therefore no longer acceptable by a lot of government agencies.

Let me burst your bubble - ALL pdfs, except ones digitally signed, are editable.

Digitally signed =/= putting a hand drawn signature in the pdf. Digitally signed = a software side signature that loses authenticity once the pdf is edited (note that even this has various standards, and pdfs digitally signed on one platform may not necessarily be recognised on another).

Just to put this in perspective - none of the ICA or MOM or URA or BCA or SAF issued pdfs are digitally signed. They are just as editable as any other.

Wow, learn something new every day. This is certainly disappointing... I always thought PDFs were the gold standard security wise.

They are pretty safe as long as they are password protected or image files without text (My PDF software, PDF Architect, also has the OCR module (optical character recognition) and can even pick up text out of an image pdf in a lot of cases.

I don't know of any pdfs without text... would they just be blank/images then? What would the point even be?

Hi guys,

Time flies, time to submit my PR application after 6 months. When i fill-up the form, they did ask about past employer record.

I would like to get some advises on this: -

In the past few years, I was a freelance and work regularly under a company (A US company, but stationed at Project Base in African country). There is no payslip but invoices every month. At that time, I am not registered with any valid Business Registration Certificate.

How can I fill up the employment record for this kind of nature? Shall I choose I not to?

Looking forward your advice.

Thank you.

Just declare it honestly. They wont ask for payslips if older than 6 months of employment.

I understand that that fact that you are Malay Chinese gives you the confidence to say the last line indicating that your pr will surely be approved.

However, dont be surprised if you face a rejection this time. You will have to compare yourself with other malay chinese profiles. Your profile also has some red flags like age, short stay, family not here etc. Anyway, do share here if you get a good news as it could be a data point. Good luck
