Citizenship Application 2023

Post by s3nt1n3l » Fri, 04 Aug 2023 11:42 am

Hi everyone,

I would be applying for Singapore Citizenship in the next few weeks and would like to ask what's the possibility of getting it based on my profile:

Current citizenship : Indonesian. 2nd gen PR since 1998 and moved to SG since 2003. last PR renewal in 2019.
Age : 32
Race : Chinese
Marital Status : Married to SC since Dec 2022. will have a SC baby at around Oct '23. but I'll be applying as an individual.
Education : Bachelor and Master's Degree from Australia
Occupation : 5 years experience in construction sector.
Salary : ~58k p.a. excluding bonus.
NS status : ORD in 2013, never been called up since then.
Property : bought a HDB resale on May 2022

I was offered citizenship during my NS days through accelerated scheme yet I didn't take it back then as I was still unsure about settling down here permanently. But now that I'm married here to a SC, bought a flat, and going to have a baby soon, no reason to not settle down here permanently

While on paper it seems that I'm the targeted candidate, I wonder if they'll take into account that I rejected their offer of citizenship when I was in NS.

If the above is a non-issue, any chance of my application being expedited due to favourable conditions ? should I wait for my baby's arrival in order to further boost my chance ?

Lastly upon approval of SC application, what's the timeline required before I can apply for passport ? I am intending to travel on Jun'24 and Dec'24 so would be great if I could at least get my passport before the Dec trip.

TIA

You refused the offer of citizenship? ICA will remember that and don’t be surprised if you get rejected. That is the reality.

If your spouse is working, ask her to sponsor via family ties after your child is born instead of applying by yourself and maybe ICA might be lenient.

Expecting a baby means nothing to ICA until the birth is registered.

Application can take up to 27 months to be processed. You wait for ICA, ICA doesn’t cater to your holiday plans lah.

Hmm, I think citizenship is a serious commitment. Was it better if OP took up the citizenship back then and proceed to relocate to another country, or wait until he really sink root here and make the commitment?

I mean, ICA can always reject the application based on various reasons, but if it is to punish him for not being able to make decision as an NS boy, isn’t it just grudge?

SMS has already mentioned many times ICA has a long memory and it really depends whether the officer wants to be lenient or not.
