PR Chances 2023

Post by uwu200 » Fri, 21 Jul 2023 4:59 am

Hi all! Been a longtime lurker here. Finally applied for my PR. What are my odds?

Nationality: Indian
Age: 28
Race: Indian
Gender: Male
Marital status: Single
Applied for: Just me
Education: Bachelors and Masters from a Good Uni in India (not QS100 so I don't think it matters to ICA)
Length of stay in SG: ~5 years
Pass type: SPASS
Occupation: Machine Learning Engineer at a Gov Lab
Salary: ~ 100k base + ~40k Bonus (13th month, perf etc.)
Work experience: 5 years, all in SG, 2 promotions. I started off with about half the pay. This is still my first job.
SG Tax Assesment: 4 years, coming to 5

Very low due to marital status and you’re on S-pass. You are competing with your fellow countrymen who are married and on EP. Singapore wants married couples who can birth the next generation of potential PRs & citizens.

Get married and get an EP to improve your chances. Even then, it’s not guaranteed since Indian quota is oversubscribed. Your salary also makes you a flight risk as you can easily leave Singapore for greener pastures.

Thanks MOCHS I am actually aware of how bleak things are given my time lurking here. wrt flight risk it's kinda difficult haha as I am planning to marry my Malayasian Chinsese (SPR) GF and stay put in SG.

We are thinking of applying for her citizenship at the same time as my PR application. Can any of the experienced members comment on her odds:

Age: 28
Nationality: Malaysian
Race: Chinese
Born: Singapore
Time in Singapore: All her life
Education: Degree from NUS (Humanities Field)
Salary: ~45k
Work: Research Assistant at a IHL

She applied once a couple of years ago and got rejected. However at that time she was only working part time and pursuing an extra art diploma art of interest (guess the gov doesn't like it).

Thanks!

I am sorry I forgot to add my renewal is coming up soon. I might be able to convince my HR to switch me up on an EP (I should be eligible by the new COMPASS rules). I am not sure if that is an advantage or a disadvantage since I feel lots of EP people are older than me and hence have much fatter paychecks.

Thanks again for all the guidance!

Well that changes things. M’sian Chinese are very favoured for PR & citizenship.

Make sure GF gets SC first. Don’t waste money on applying PR for yourself. Confirm you will get rejected.

After she gets SC, marry her.

Wait for 2 years of marriage. In those 2 years, she should improve salary. Then ask her to sponsor PR for you under family ties scheme.

I applied for myself so well will take the rejection if it comes to it. Any comments on her chances of SC application. We were actually quite shocked when it was rejected the first time. She will complete 1 year of full time job in December. Should we wait till then or apply already since we have 6 months of payslips?

Once again thanks :)

Even if she’s M’sian Chinese, she should still have a full time job instead of part time job for PR application. Applying after 6 months payslip seems okay.

In the event you two marry while your PR application is still processing, update ICA about your marital status ASAP.

Race and lack of roots makes it hard

I know there isn't a hard rule for what salary is considered a flight risk, but generally I see those who are making mid to high six figures as the ones that are not looked upon favorably.

Chances will increase exponentially if you get married, and more so once you have children. Unfortunately, until then, dating a PR means nothing.
