PR application... but weird stuff :D

Post by Astarnaud04 » Wed, 12 Jul 2023 6:23 pm

Hello everyone [-o< please feel free to move or fusion my topic with others if it is better
I've been reading this forum since a long time now, and congratulation cause I've learnt a ton of useful information !

I also read plenty of topics regarding PR application/rejected/approved, but I'm not sure I read anything regarding a 'Rejected' which turns 'Pending' again, so...

I've applied for the SPR in March 2022, Rejected in October 2022. My profile is not optimal...to say the least 8-[

Nationality: French
Age: 34
Marital status: Single
Children: 0
Salary: 70k(base) when I applied, 87k(base) right now
Industry: Research associate with NUS when I submitted my PR application. Senior research officer for A*star currently.
Experience: 9+ years ( 7 years in Singapore)
Degree: 3 master's degree, 2 in France, 1 in Canada
Stay in Singapore: 7 years total
Visa: EP (Astar), then Spass (NUS), then EP (NUS), then Spass (Astar)

So yea, I got 3 salary increments and filled a patent since my last SPR application. So I decided to re-apply last month. But I couldn't, cause, my previous application turned Pending early in June apparently (I never appeal or even log in on myICA since October 2022)
The story is not done... I got a call from ICA (not the stoopid scam with the autovoice), they asked me for additional documents (my recent payslips) but also...for the reference number of my patent filled with A*star, but I never told them anything about that. I told the lady that I will obviously send the documents, but that I'm surprised that I have an application running, she told me it was an appeal. Even if I like to drink rum and beer, I never exceed and unconsciously play on MyICA portal :D

I will keep you updated anyway, and I have not read so much of European single male application, maybe the topic can be helpful at some point.

Cheers !

X9200, this one's for you. Is it possible that A*star did an appeal based on the weight of the Patent?

I have never heard about anything like this but I've heard about AStar trying to help with the appeal. I believe they intended to write some supporting letter. Whether it was any effective - no idea. If somebody intended to mention a specific patent, I would be very surprised OP was not consulted this or that way. On the other hand, if this was just some generic supporting letter only mentioning general contributions (published some papers, filed technology disclosures etc etc), perhaps this is why ICA wants to have it more specific. Weight of the patent is a bit hard to determine unless this is something really exceptional (e.g. already bunch of companies paying royalties). Is this really the case? :)

I agree with you. I also feel the events OP told is a bit weird by his own description. Patents may not be enough to reconsider a PR application, and i can say so as i am also very close to OPs industry. If that patent is worth enough to reconsider a PR decision, especially something that was rejected, that patent would be having a million dollar revenue by now and may have to address something novel that can make your jaw drop or at least of commercial value. For example, if you were the first inventor of quantum computing. Astar files several tens of patents per year. Anyway, may be OP can explain a bit on the topic or field of invention.

One funny guess i can make is may be some system error that caused this reject and then to change to pending. Highly unlikely that Astar would appeal for its staff, anyway it is just my opinion. Only OP, ICA and God may know what is happening.

I note that the patent was filed after OP's initial application. Wonder why it supports an APPEAL to ica.

Hello :) thanks all for your answers !

I do agree with all of you. Without saying that my work is useless :D the patent is not exceptionnal at all (if there are some scientists here, the TD is just a plasmid construct, which allow an integration in safe-harbour location into the human genome). I also did publish articles in journals, but it is common in Sciences. I have big doubts that A*star did anything, cause first, they refused housing allowance since I'm RTS, and second, I would have known about it I guess ?! plus I don't remember that I told anyone regarding my SPR application hehe

According to this, my thoughts are similar to Hopeislife, it sounds more like a system error :D but still, there is this call...

Keep you updated guys !
Cheers

After some study, I came across a case that looks similar to yours, but the post may give you no answer viewtopic.php?t=129092

One person saying his status changed from pending to withdrawn and then back to pending.
