Hi everyone, we are relocating back to the US (New Jersey) and would like to take our personal alcohol collection - approx. 20 spirits (opened bottles) and 24 wine (unopened). Our movers have strongly advised us not to include it in their shipment. What other options are available?
Thanks.

Better yet, have a big going away going back home party with the codicil that nobody can attend if they are driving (Grab/similar or public transport only) and all bottles opened. That way other than sore head in the morning and probably vomiting in the lobby, nobody should end up in jail from driving under the influence. If you trying taking the unopened bottles of wine into the US you will definitely be charged to pay customs duties into the US. The open bottles will probably be not allowed at all. Aside from the single trip allowances given by most ports of entry.

Ya gift to friends and neighbours. I'm sure that would put some smiles on their faces.
In my whatsapp group with neughbours, there's always expats giving away wines, food stuff and cooking ingredients when they relocate out of Singapore.

Yep, I have received a quite a few free bottles over the years from expats moving back. I even got a nice leather bottle carrier, which I found comes in real handy when you’ve got a bottle and a few other items to bring to the poolside or other venues.

I had to do a mix of these things when leaving SG to US as especially my US state does not allow even one bottle of shipment of liquor. Mostly gave away and parties for few and few friends who knew the real value of the more expensive ones... ahem... *gifted* me back good things. All fair and square. End of day I feel I should have finished more bottles on my own on those gloomy days..... all the best to you

You can also sell them on Carousell. They should be duty paid version though.

It used to be a big business here back before the 1990s. Selling high end VSOP cognac bottles for as much as $100 to $150 if it was an unmarked bottle label and the box & cap/cork/cover was with it as the pirates here weren't just selling counterfeit CDs, Tapes, LDs, etc. but also rotgut cheap cognac rebottled in upmarket bottles. Doubt if it's being done here today, but I reckon our neighbours on either side of us are probably still doing it if you know who to ask.

Good Whisky bottles like 18 year old or up single malt bottles were also fetching a decent price for the same reason

I remember the days of counterfeit CDs/DVDs! Used to drive into JB and buy all the latest movies on tape there. Still remember at the start of every viewing there would be an anti-piracy ad, as well as a Malay lady telling you why you should go for the gold disc and not the purple disc. Couldn't help but laugh at the irony each time.
