I believe that a middle class population that has tasted 21st century consumerism will not be very much in favor of war and hardship. They will probably have grand ideas of nationalism initially, but when sanctions start to affect their quality of life and when they find that they cannot travel freely outside their own country for leisure and business, that's when the war starts to affect them personally and when more fence sitters will start to outright reject the idea.
I believe Putin's popularity will only decline. That's among the civilian population. I would hazard a guess that as the military faces setbacks and they start to get demoralized, his popularity will decline among the military regulars as well. That can't be good for him in the long run - it's not hard to imagine a scenario in which someone else who is hungry enough for power can rally troops around him and start a resistance to the regime in the capital.
Well that's my view, just the way I see it - it may be a naive view because I'm no expert on the current situation.

Yep, valid point.
But, if you get your wish and the PAP gets booted, you can bet the whacked out opposition will allow it. It would be about the only way they could ever stay in power.

EP = 11%, DP = 16% of population.
EPs I reckon are >50% of senior management of MNCs.
So that would not be good for the economy.

Well, if everyone would just follow the UN charter, it would be enough.

Number of countries who were pretty close to 1st world standards and have screwed up by doing a self goal and gone down in relevance in the last decade.
1. Turkey
2. China
3. Russia
If you are a passport holder of one of these countries you are trying to get the hell out there.
