Just read about it... tragic. What's most sad to me was that the 19 year old was terrified of going but went to please his father as the trip fell over Fathers Day weekend.
I agree. Did you see the interior of the vessel? Military subs with far more hardware and software in them are only permitted to go to a fraction of the depth the titan did. The titan, on the other hand, was operated by a $15 logitech controller and had one button on board.
Apparently, it imploded three days ago. I can understand from a national security perspective why it might be important to limit public knowledge of domestic military capabilities, but I can also see how there was tons of unnecessary speculation and worry caused by withholding that information. Although, if I'm being completely honest, I don't see how the information is relevant to anybody but the families of the victims.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Fri, 23 Jun 2023 3:20 pmWorse still is that apparently the US Govt knows exactly when it Imploded but sat on it due to the necessity of not divulging military secrets as to it's listening capabilities. I'm sure more will come out of this later.
That's the way to do it. A lot of luck involved too, not everybody makes it to that age with that many stories to tell.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Sun, 25 Jun 2023 5:33 pmHad to laugh at your 100 lives comment. I actually could have retired years ago had somebody given me $10 for ever time I've hear something in that vein or that I should write a book. I've damned sure used up more than the cat's allocated lives. But I can say one thing. At least when I go, I go with an empty bucket list (unless I can think of something else!!!). Everything I've ever wanted to try, I did. Some I've enjoyed, some not, those things I've not tried, I have no interest in. My father gave me that advice when I was still a pupper long before it became a meme. "YOLO" I've lived my whole life that way. Not rich, monetarily, but in life experiences, memories abound.
There were a lot of people online saying that the mass tragedy was overshadowed by the implosion, because the media and members of the public value the lives of billionaires more than that of nameless, faceless refugees. But I simply don't think that's the case. The submarine was such a big deal because of the circumstances involved, and the irony of history repeating itself.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Sun, 25 Jun 2023 5:25 pmYeah I did, and while it's the shits that it didn't get the same coverage, maybe it was a hidden blessing re: bad crap is portrayed in the media for whatever mileage/eyeball hits it can gather. As you noted, they are an unsympathetic bunch. The last thing grieving families need is having everybody they have ever known calling them up during the trying times surrounding great catastrophes especially while ongoing.
