I am a Singaporean male and my wife is a foreigner from India. Our child will be due in Mid November. We have gotten a maternity package from Gleneagles JB. My questions are once my child is born, how can I go about applying for his Singaporean Citizenship and how long will it take for him to get his passport? Does he need a passport to come back to Singapore? If not how long do we have to stay in JB till all of us can come back to Singapore ASAP.
Lastly, does anyone know where I can rent apartments/places to stay for a month at an affordable price near Gleneagles JB?
Thank you!

sg consulate is at jb city square. ask them about how to report birth.
yes he will need a passport. ask the consulate or high commission. they have a 24 hr hotline.
he stays in jb until he gets a travel document. it will take as long as necessary.
asap? you better be prepared then. asking on an expat forum is not likely to help speed things up.
plenty of places in jb you can stay for free. might not be convenient but it’s free.

the following birth right steps are optional:
don’t forget - if you ask your mp to write you a letter it may (or may not) speed things up.
also remember to complain to the consular staff about how much quicker the process should take.
then post your experience on social media, ok? tag mothership etc.
jk.
maybe.

Out of curiosity, what's the rush to get back to singapore? Everything is cheap in JB, and babies are so expensive so you'd probably save a ton.

Oh for goodness sakes. I hope your child is smarter than you.
DO NOT HAVE A BABY IN MY if you're SC. Everything then becomes "loose". Give birth in Singapore. JFC are you all so freak stupid?

You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or

Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I dont understand what logic is that for a Singaporean and Indian citizen to give birth in Malaysia?
If one of them is Malaysian, I still can understand. But none of them is.
Cost saving???????

It's a massive risk for little monetary gain. There is so much that can go wrong.

Way harsh, PNGMK! But on second thought, I'm inclined to agree with you. I was thinking about the savings at first, but yes, creates tons of unnecessary admin issues.

When I read the original post, I misread it as the wife was Malaysian. If she's Indian, then having the baby in Malaysia makes absolutely no sense. There will undoubtedly be savings, but the trouble is unjustifiable.
