Be very careful with flying any unmanned planes, drones etc in Singapore. There are lots of no-fly zones and regulations must be strictly observed. There are many horror stories of people who violated some rules, police came after them and they were hefty fined or even detained.

It is of course possible to still enjoy such activity (I am flying drones myself) but do not take the regulations lightly. In Singapore everybody sort of expects many regulations could be bent and authorities are forgiving. This is surely not the case for flying UA.
Yup, if you live on a private property, it's best to fly it there. Though, obviously have to keep a lookout for safety. The fines sneak up on you.

There's a RC model club. Join them. Drones don't interest me .
Doesn't matter. Same regulations. Joining the club is a good idea but don't even try to fly if you are within an official no-fly zone.
Yes but being in a club means they can tell you the rules etc. Also I think they include insurance.
If they include insurance, presumably there are fees involved to join the club? Either way, will probably be a good way to meet other like-minded people.

And what happens after you get into jb? The roads are bike friendly? I'm surprised.
Much the same as here, if you're comfortable cycling on roads here then you'll be fine there. You just can't go on the toll roads there. For that reason bicycles can only cross at Woodlands, because at Tuas you get directly onto an expressway in JB.
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen anyone cycle into jb, much less on the roads there.

Just seems like it would be really dangerous for cyclists as the roads are not optimized for bike use. Unless, of course, the cyclist were to cycle in the pedestrian lane/sidewalk, but even so that would transfer the risk to the pedestrian.
I have heard of people catching the bum boat from Changi to Belungkor and then cycling along the coast then up to Desaru. The traffic around there is pretty light and should be attractive to cyclists.

Not sure if that service is still active or has been shuttered.

Insurance will cover against 3rd party claims, perhaps the damage of UA itself, but not against fines.
I would be careful even flying at private property. This is still not allowed within the no-fly zone and if it is a condo (assuming flying an airplane there is possible at all) it would be still against regulations (sufficient distance from building, people etc). I believe I read about the case for a RC plane or a drone, an open field in Punggol, large space, no people, building obstructions, makes perfect sense... no apparent security issue. Wrong, at least one airport was within 5 km (and there are 4 on the island) and police got him.

The RC club is a good idea, I am only saying, don't be tempted to fly if you don't know the zones even if you think it is safe and nobody would care.

Had no idea this was a thing. So now the modes of transport SG-MY are plane, car, train, bus, boat, bicycle. Think we've covered all the bases haha.

There is an option in the pull-down menu on the left, next to the search box that would show the no-fly zones.

Add to it that the highest elevation allowed in Singapore to fly with no extra permit is 60 m above mean sea level (AMSL) so technically I can not fly my drone at my flat in Bukit Batok because it's high floor and the ground is already ca 30-40 m AMLS :)

I had a “hobbyist” drone flyer who went up to the top floor (6th storey) of the multi-storey carpark near my parents house. He flew his drone up to the 12th floor where my parents flat was and I was WTF-ing at an object hovering outside the living room window. Think he was trying to fly around the carpark but flew too high. Only saw him on two occasions, he never flew near the windows again and didn’t see him anymore after that.

I always joke the MSCP is multi-purpose in addition to being multi-storey. In addition to drone flying, things I’ve witnessed:
- Suntanning
- Sun drying of mattress
- Bringing jaundiced babies out for walks in the morning
- Viewing lunar eclipse
- Exercising (jogging, skating, skateboarding, skipping, martial arts)
- Dating/studying
- Police doing a photoshoot (for real)
- Car enthusiasts lining up their cars to do a photoshoot
- Wedding gatecrash (bride’s window faced the MSCP)
- Dog training
- Parrot flying training
- Drummer with drum kit filming a music video

Not to mention those doing what could be done on a sun-dried mattress... :P

Unfortunately I've seen this more than once.

Well, the good news is you probably wouldn't want to fly it from your flat anyway, if things went South, it would be impossible to retrieve.

I think, for the most part, singapore's landscape and environment is not suited to aerial activities. Far too many high rises, too dense of a population, too many laws.

It is still fun actually. There are number of places worth flying, for example Marina Bay, Kallang Basin, WCP, Clementi Forest. Not that many laws either. Just need to learn them and adhere. The main problem as I see it is what I mentioned earlier - people tend to assume the authorities are forgiving. They often are (unless one tries to push the limits), but not in this case.
