Actually you can apply for SC anytime after being PR I believe. It's just the conventional wisdom to wait two years.DouglauLee wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 10:37 amHi All,
Long time a lurker here.
I obtained my PR in May last year.
Here is my profile;
Malaysian Chinese
Male 41 years old
Salary: 8k/month
Job title: Business development manager
Married with 2 kids (boy 11 years old, girl 8 years old studying in primary local schools). My wife and 2 kids are Singapore PR too. My wife's salary is 4k/month.
I understand you're only eligible to apply for Singapore citizen after completing 2 years of PR. However, yesterday when I lodged in ICA portal, the system allows me to apply Singapore citizen.
May I know in this forum anyone who tried to apply for citizen less than 2 years after getting PR?
Thanks in advance.
I am planning to apply citizen as a whole family.jalanjalan wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 1:08 pmAre you contemplating applying as a whole family or just you?
This would probably afford you the best chance.DouglauLee wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 2:50 pmI am planning to apply citizen as a whole family.jalanjalan wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 1:08 pmAre you contemplating applying as a whole family or just you?
Chances should be pretty solid, salary is OK, the fact that both children study locally is great as well.DouglauLee wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 10:37 amHi All,

What do you think is the soonest someone has obtained SC after PR?PNGMK wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 2:16 pmActually you can apply for SC anytime after being PR I believe. It's just the conventional wisdom to wait two years.DouglauLee wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 10:37 amHi All,

I'd guess a pretty good chance then. Malaysia being so culturally similar to SG you don't need much time to acculturate. Just be sure to say SG food is bestDouglauLee wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 2:50 pmI am planning to apply citizen as a whole family.jalanjalan wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 1:08 pmAre you contemplating applying as a whole family or just you?
The fastest I have heard about is back when our office moved from HK to SG before the handover in 1997… from what I can recall, the HKers who moved to our new SG office got a special package that included PR and fast track citizenship, believe it was after just 1 year.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 3:59 pmWhat do you think is the soonest someone has obtained SC after PR?PNGMK wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 2:16 pmActually you can apply for SC anytime after being PR I believe. That goes without saying. When you're a ultra high NW, desirable applicant, anything goes. Of course, I doubt we'll ever hear about them.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 6:15 pmThe fastest I have heard about is back when our office moved from HK to SG before the handover in 1997… from what I can recall, the HKers who moved to our new SG office got a special package that included PR and fast track citizenship, believe it was after just 1 year.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 3:59 pmWhat do you think is the soonest someone has obtained SC after PR?
Having said that, I’m sure there are rarified people who get it faster. Just like the little known tax exemption for ultra high flyers — assuming that even still exists… that club is way more exclusive than getting invited to apply for the Centurion credit card (which at a minimum, requires millions in credit card spend annually).
If you spend enough “soak time” across the border, you will know.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 6:23 pmIt's never good to liejalanjalan wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 5:07 pmI'd guess a pretty good chance then. Even as a SG food lover I must admit I can see where Malaysians are coming from when they say their food is better![]()
Agree! The milo in Malaysia is so "gao". Real rich and creamy. Here, the best milo is served at the late night Indian prata stalls. Otherwise I buy the stuff in the carton, it's not too bad.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 6:31 pmIf you spend enough “soak time” across the border, you will know.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 6:23 pmIt's never good to liejalanjalan wrote: ↑Mon, 29 May 2023 5:07 pm

Take a simple thing like iced milo, I don’t even order it here… but in Malaysia? Boleh! Not sure what they do to it, but it’s not the watered down tasteless stuff they serve here.
