fwiw, I was in my late 40s when I last renewed REP, and they didn't ask to see any employment info for me or my sponsor. They just asked for our ICs and my passport.
They have it all already. You're basically pre approved when you're REP comes up. If you're not pre approved then a manual process kicks in.

Same here, on FT.
And as I was over 55 at the time, I didn't need to be employed either.
Hello dear SMS, regarding
retirement...
Renewing REP after having reached 55 doesn't require employment anymore leh?
(as long as you are staying in Singapore of course)
Under FTS I bet your Sponsor (being financially responsible) still had an employment, right?
Also do you think they check whether you have contributed enough taxes in your career and that your CPF is enough to retire?
Do they check that you didn't withdraw CPF and selected a CPF life option for the future?
thanks for sharing (as usual

)
Definitely being FT is in favor. The gahmen has started that PR renewal post retirement is ok. Of course you can't withdraw all your RA if you are still a PR.
You can withdraw your RA if you can prove an alternate source of guaranteed income. This is what I might try in my wife’s case before CPF LIFE kicks in at age 70 - - she will have social security spousal benefits (50% of my full benefit) at age 67, which will easily exceed CPF LIFE payments.
The US taxes CPF LIFE like an RMD (as ordinary income) because the annuity was bought with previously untaxed dollars. However, withdrawing the RA balance in full would be US tax free. Even if we retire in SG, filing joint US taxes can make sense because all of the foreign earned income exclusions go away in retirement.

(as long as you are staying in Singapore of course) Wrong. doesn't require employment. Still gets renewed. As I am a PR of course my home is in Singapore - I don't try to game the system

Wrong, She hasn't worked in 30 years.

Definitely not.

Who knows or cares. I used a huge portion of it for my flat and there is virtually nothing left that is not pledged. I also do not need my CPF for retirement and I was already past 70 when the CPF life thing came about so it's just sitting there drawing interest.

For e-renewal, you have to do it within 3 mos of expiry or something like that. I missed the deadline (by a lot) and had to go down to ICA building when I eventually got it renewed.

I catch no ball. How is the broker gonna know? And even if they did, why would they care about your rep?

Anyone appealed if given with one year REP. After 25 years stay and 18years of PR. Any suggestions?

How long you’ve been a PR doesn’t really factor into REP validity.
What are the circumstances that led to the short validity?
In general, during REP renewal, they look at what type of PR you were originally granted and whether you would still qualify under the prevailing criteria. However, there are a variety of other factors that are considered depending on specific circumstances.

I find it really strange that a PR cannot find a job in Singapore. With everything happening these days to make it tough for foreigners, I thought having a PR means you are already half way into the company.
Besides, being a PR, you can start a business and become your own boss.

I suspect they might be outside Singapore. I don’t think it’s a lack of jobs, but a lack of the jobs people want.
For any PR that is staying in Singapore, having an expired REP is fine, as long as you don’t leave Singapore. PR doesn’t expire. So in theory, a PR could remain unemployed until 55 and then reapply for REP as a retiree.

They could be out of Singapore or here without a job (has happened before on this board).
Just crossing 55 may not resolve the issue. After working, whatever age that is, there's likely a number of factors taken into consideration. Some people have virtually no risk while others may have a tougher time.
Anyways, it would be good if the person who posted the question would provide more details about their situation (location, employment status, age, family circumstances, etc). A one-year REP if outside of Singapore is kind of obvious. If inside of Singapore, it probably says something.

I have friends having a hard time finding employment after being retrenched. Key commonality, being over 45.
