Yep, still holds true even today!

The response from the ICA addressing the MP it's just a courtesy. It means absolutely nothing. Waiting time can vary greatly, best to be patient and not stress yourself out.iceblue wrote: ↑Fri, 16 Jun 2023 7:05 amDear all, please give me some advise and inputs
I have applied PR for my wife in Sept 2021 and until now have not received any updates.

6) Married with me since Sept 2020
7) Singaporean son born in Dec 2021
8) Degree holder from China (Degree cert verified by China academic degree Centre)
9) First marriage
10) Staying with me at my parent's private home (we are waiting for PR approval before buying our own house)
Me:
1) SG Chinese (M)
2) Current job: Company Director of 2 companies, one of which my wife is also working at and a shareholder
3) IRAS NOA for year 2022: $200+k annual income
4) NUS degree
5) First marriage with wife since Sept 2020
6) Singaporean son born in Dec 2021

Based on the above, what are our chances? No news since we applied in Sept 2021
We went to see our MP at the 1.5 year mark and he helped us to send a letter to ica to check on the status. Following which a month later we received a letter from ICA stating that they have noted our MP's request for updates and that the application is still processing. But until now 3 months since then we have no updates.
Would appreciate if anyone have been in the situation before and if the waiting time is so long?
You should never have a baby for immigration purposes, however, if it is something that is part of your life plan anyway, and a decision that you are sure of, then there's no harm in making it sooner.raptor_from_vietnam wrote: ↑Sun, 11 Jun 2023 6:28 pmBut is it reckless to have a baby without securing PR first? I mean usually people need to achieve a certain level of stability in life before having a kid. In fact, having no permanent residency is what delaying us from having a baby. Sure we can support our baby financially at our current income level. But the moment we are retrenched or something, we would be kicked out of the country within 30 days.
I would said.. nothingjemzxc wrote: ↑Sun, 24 Dec 2023 11:34 pmHi everyone,
I would like to provide an update regarding my application.
After 19 months (Jan22-Aug23), I received my rejection letter. the format is the “if you have any changes in your circumstances etc”.
And indeed I did. My mom got married to a local Singaporean in Nov23.
On 11 Dec, my step dad and I went to appeal to the MP. of course the MP and the officers didn’t promise anything but they were very helpful to type a letter on the spot while verifying all my info + my step dad info. The letter was sent directly via their internal system to ICA.
The content was “Mr. Stepdad recently got married to Jemzxc’s mother and he is now Jemzxc’s legal father. Jemzxc has been here for 14 years, so and so”
On 14 Dec, I received a letter dated 12 Dec as below:
“Appeal for SG PR:
1 Please refer to Mr Stepdad’s appeal regarding the above matter.
2 The matter is receiving attention.
3 We will inform you of the outcome once it has been finalised.”
On the ICA portal, there is a new application “Pending” with a new reference number. the Old reference
number starts with “EPR-sth-sth” and the new one starts with “PRS-sth-sth”.
The new application is directly on top of the old one where I can see the rejected status and outcome letter download option.
Please share with me if you guys have encountered any similar cases and what would be my chances to get my PR.
Thanks all!
I'd argue that such letters are arguably counterproductive as they come across as disingenuous. Very rarely does an applicant actually know their MP, and without that true relationship, the letter is worth nothing.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Mon, 25 Dec 2023 10:36 pmAdditionally, letters from MP at meet the MP sessions are, for all intents and purposes, useless. It's just a sop so they can say they are trying to help. In my 40 years here I've only 'heard' of one where it was successful. That was in AMK and the MP that wrote it was actually the PM. But even that isn't a guarantee. ICA are gods unto themselves (as they are in almost all countries). What your mother does has absolutely no bearing on you once you reach the age of majority. Good Luck. I think your gonna need it.
Well, i think this change in circumstance where your mom got married to a sgc is not going to help you as others have pointed out since you are already ~30yrs old. In fact, i personally believe it is going to act against you. Let us know here how it goes.jemzxc wrote: ↑Sun, 24 Dec 2023 11:34 pmAnd indeed I did.
