Big Ask to get NLB ebooks onto a paper white kindle - I don’t think Amazon owns the copyright to sell ebooks in Singapore and hence does not have a kindle store or sell Kindle devices from Amazon.sg.malcontent wrote:Does anyone borrow ebooks from NLB using Libby? I borrow ebooks from both US & SG libraries. Despite many things in SG being scarce, it’s not the case in this instance.
The breadth and depth of selection, and the availability of ebooks for borrowing at the NLB is many-fold better than US libraries. The audio book and eMagazine selection is amazing too!
The only downside is that unlike US libraries, NLB resources can’t be downloaded to a Kindle Paperwhite… hopefully that will change eventually. Maybe we need to petition the NLB?
Not really a fair comparison, I don't think. Kind of like apples & oranges. It's the National Library of Singapore. Therefore maybe you should compare it to the Library of Congress (the US National Library). Not the local library in your home town.malcontent wrote: ↑Mon, 10 Apr 2023 7:47 amDoes anyone borrow ebooks from NLB using Libby? I borrow ebooks from both US & SG libraries. Fortunately my local library in the US is part of the Midwest Collaborative, which combines resources of several dozen libraries across the region. Certainly not the library of congress, but better than one home town library. The biggest problem in the US is the number of people borrowing books is far greater than here - anything good has been checked out and you’ve got a long waitlist.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Tue, 11 Apr 2023 4:36 pmNot really a fair comparison, I don't think. But for it small size It does have a decently stocked library, I'd have to say.
I’m aware of that hack, but couldn’t find a way to do it efficiently - I’m far too lazy to be bothered… I’ll just do without, or cringe and read the juicy bits on a backlit screen (yuck).
