LTVP for my husband

Post by pallavisubra » Thu, 30 Mar 2023 1:14 am

Hi, I am a SG PR currently working in the US.
My husband is an Indian citizen and I would like to apply for his LTVP.
I was previously employed in Singapore and have a CPF account.
Am I eligible to apply for my husband's LTVP when I don't have employment in Singapore?

We may need to understand the meaning of LTVP. Why does he need to apply for long-term stay in Singapore if you are not working in Singapore?

We plan to move to Singapore in the next year or so. Wanted to see if we could get the LTVP before hand so he could actively look for jobs and land one before coming to Singapore.

Not possible to apply LTVP from overseas. The D/E number is needed for the foreigner and they only get the number when they enter SG.

You as the sponsor need to physically be in SG and have job in SG first before you can sponsor LTVP for spouse.

If Singaporeans can’t sponsor LTVP from overseas, unlikely for PR to do so.

My SIL (PR) and her husband (foreigner) moved from the US to SG. He initially came in on a SVP and when she applied for his LTVP it was initially rejected. Later she got a job and reapplied, it was then accepted. He got a job after some time, switched from LTVP to EP. After many years, he applied for PR - it was approved, but only with their two boys, which meant NS for them. They declined, which probably dooms any chance of future PR.

This is one reason I have always been wary of taking that next step — you definitely want to look before you leap, don’t tarnish your future prospects unless you are committed. The process works like a ratchet, once you click to the next step, it’s hard to go back — and what you do from that point onward on gets scrutinized.
