How long have you been in Singapore?
Since Feb 2017.
I see, that's an acceptable amount of time to wait before applying for SC. Sometimes it's hard to remember that 2017 was 6 years ago!
However the minimum time (eligibility to apply for SC) is 2 years after getting PR. Right?

He mentioned that he's been a PR since 2019. FYI, I got my PR the same year. I applied for SC exactly 2 years later and was approved in about 6 months. Prior to that, the system wouldn't allow me to submit an SC application as you mentioned.

Anyway, no 2 cases are the same. One factor which seems to be in his favor is that he's a Malaysian. I think the fact that he was approved for PR with a salary which is much lower than many of the subcontinent Indians who are unsuccessful, that itself indicates that Malaysian Indians are given preference ahead of the ones from the subcontinent.

One thing they have explicitly said is that they prioritise new immigrants with the ability to integrate well into SG society. I'm sure it has some bearing if you're Malaysian, regardless of ethnicity.

That's just one criteria of many, of course, but they've been emphasising it recently.

I gotta laugh. It's even worse for me. I've actually been here 2x as long as Lisa (literally). Six years is a drop in the bucket.

There is no hard rule. Generally we advise applicants to wait two years.

Completely agree, I believe the fact that he was approved with that salary is especially telling.

I actually think it's always been implicit, though perhaps in recent years they've become more open about this preference.

Can only imagine. You've been here (give or take) as long as I've been alive!
