What I find odd is how segregated church congregations are in the US, and it’s self-segregated. There is no conspiracy, no real rationale, it just happens. The very few churches that have diverse congregations really have to work hard at it with a concerted effort.Lisafuller wrote: ↑Fri, 24 Mar 2023 12:11 amWow, most times I think of segregation and widespread racism as a thing of the distant, distant past, but this makes me realize that it really wasn't too long ago.sundaymorningstaple wrote: ↑Thu, 23 Mar 2023 5:35 pmI went to quite a few minstrel shows back in the day when I was still in high school. In fact, The Elks Club used to have a big deal out of their production in my hometown. (this was before integration. I was in the last segregated class to graduate from my high school.
TBH, I never really noticed it growing up, but thinking back, there really was zero racial diversity in our church, and it continues to be the case today when I go back for a visit. I would bet my wife and kids are the only diversity they see all year! They don’t get treated any different, if anything people are more friendly and curious.
