PR Chances 2023

Post by merjay » Sat, 25 Feb 2023 11:16 am

Hi there ! New joiner here and recently applied for PR in January. Curious to know what you think my chances are ?

Who : My wife (DP + LOC) and I (EP)
Age : 33 and 33
EP and DP recently renewed for 3 years
Time in SG : 4 years
Work and Salary : Finance for me, 300k. healthcare for her 75k (LOC expires soon, trying to transition to work pass). Both on local contracts. She was a frontline healthcare worker through covid
Nationality : Indian (me) and British (her). Both citizens from birth
Race : Both Indian
Education : Masters for me, Bachelors for her

We want to settle long term but without PR this is proving difficult to commit to

Low as you’re competing with your fellow countrymen with similar earning power for the second lowest PR quota. And even lower since you don’t have kids. Have a Plan B aka settle in another country instead.

Do not bother with volunteering, property, donation, recommendation letters, etc. as ICA does not request for those and they are useless.

Still possible as they're young and married, so kids aren't off the table.

Ethnic quota is what gets you as there are many applicants in your category with very few spaces. Like MOCHS has mentioned, your chances will improve if you have kids.

33 is already a little close to the recommended age of 35 to have children. Hardly “young” any more. Having kids won’t guarantee a PR either but it does signal an intention to sink roots. Many Indian families with children also struggle to get PR approved.

Like I said, have a plan B or C.

Personally I consider anything under recommended age "young". Being close to the cut off is still under the cut off.

Actually the advised cut off is 38. I know this for fact as was advised by my wife's gynae when she got pregnant the first time (she was 38). The development was closely monitored by her gynae who was at that time, arguably the most famous Ob-Gyn in Asia for a slightly different reason. You can look him up on Wiki: Shan Ratnam to find out what he is famous for beside also being the professor and head of the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the National University Hospital of Singapore. I usually advise using 35 as the danger age for women when it comes to childless marriages at that age with regard to ICA. Oh, that danger is only for 1st pregnancies. not subsequent ones. (our 2nd was at 43)

I had a friend who delivered twins two years ago at age 50. Conceived through IVF. Before that I had known of friends and relatives who had kids in their 40s, but 50 took it to another level for me.
