Tiktok, are you a Singaporean?

I'm not, but nonetheless there are enlightened, well informed and free thinking Singaporeans, for example Chee Soon Juan, Paul Tambyah, PJ Thum and Kirsten Han. Check them out before the government throws them in jail. (They already did that many times to Mr Chee).
Better be careful. We know several of the Ministries read these forums. If you let bulldog mouth overload hummingbird butt, They might just ship your arse back to HK (considering how much you love the place). Or might contact & have Admin drill down and trace your IP, etc.
Heh. His arguments have been verbatim from the same old "alternative news" sites, regurgitated by western media. Majority of Singaporeans know to take those with a dollop of salt.

Mothership is pro-PAP. As I said, the mainstream media here is not to be trusted. If you wish to back up your arguments with links, please find other sources.

Actually #1 is something you should question. Why are there still drugs in Singapore and why do people keep bringing them in?

And the point of this thread has always been to show how biased and inaccurate the mainstream media is in Singapore. If anyone believes what they read in it, they certainly don't know what is good for them.
Various reasons.

Again, you throw out a link to some popoganda which proves absolutely nothing!

Nope, all mainstream Singapore media sources are biased, and that's all you have posted.

I'm sorry your hometown has been wrecked by drugs but that doesn't give you a licence to be ignorant and gullible. With all due respect.

It is ignorant to believe everything you read in mainstream media here can’t be trusted. You might be the exception, but most people are not so simple minded to be either “all in” or “all out” when it comes to trusting what they read.

No I stand by that statement. It's not to say that everything is false by any means. But firstly the mainstream media simply suppresses a lot of news, and this is the biggest problem if it's your only source. Secondly it has blatantly pro government pieces that are not even news. Thirdly it puts heavy spin on "sensitive issues" to mislead all but the most astute readers. Apart from that, it's just mid quality journalism and syndicated articles.

I've lived here for nearly 30 years. It's safe, clean, and drugs are quite well controlled by the tireless efforts of law enforcement. I've seen how the police, as well as RT and prisons systems work, and also various support organisations in the social and voluntary sector, from my past work and volunteering. They are professional to a fault. Same with the courts.
That's firsthand, with my own eyes.

So, I can actually balance what I read with my experience, and I do. And yes, you can trust these sources as a layperson.

Now, let's hear your credentials.

My credentials are: I do my best to learn about Singapore from as many varied and credible sources as I can.

Did you know that Singapore has the longest serving political prisoner in the world? 23 years without trial.

Have you any idea of the extent of gerrymandering the PAP does? That they drastically redraw boundaries without consultation just before announcing an election which typically permits 9 days for campaigning.

Do you know how the government uses POFMA, FICA, defamation to silence opposition?

Do you know that Singapore is ranked near the bottom of multiple studies ranking countries by democratic freedom?

I'm just saying you'll never hear about this kind of stuff in ST/CNA.

So basically, you got nothing, as far as life experience goes.

And yes, those are all old stories and everyone has heard them.

I do know you're trolling (or trying to - your technique needs a little work), but still I have been replying to your posts not to try to convince you but to give a balanced view for any expats who may be reading this and be worried about living in Singapore.
I still see online rumours floating around that we get caned for chewing gum
Be disaffected if you want, that's not my pasal. But if you tell untruths, be prepared to be called out on them.
I'm semi retired and got lots of free time

Sorry, not trolling, not telling any mistruths (but happy to be proved wrong), and not putting any personal details online.

Expats should definitely be aware that they are moving to a soft dictatorship with a very dark side. Of course most won't be affected and won't care anyway. Probably no worse than Dubai.

Your first point assumes that people here only get information from local mainstream media… seriously? You really think so lowly of the public here, no internet access issit?

Your second point is not a revelation to almost anyone here, it’s plainly obvious to most all readers. I remember reading (with a chuckle) when they started charging a fee to buy EZ-Link cards, the newspaper article said something to the effect of “at least one person we spoke to said they understood the fee increase, they need to cover their cost” - I can only imagine what the other people said, which was conveniently left out. This is routine.

Your third point assumes that everyone thinks the issues that you think are sensitive are really sensitive. The things that get brought up to me by disgruntled locals are only issues to them, due to their own small mindedness. How the government tries to spin it to help small minded folks get over things is not my concern.

To live here and appreciate what you have, you have to focus on the big picture. There are PLENTY of problems to be found in ANY country you could live in (some more than others, and plenty have way more than here). If you want to make that the focus of your life, you’ll be miserable. Focus on what you can control, ignore what you can’t — you will be a whole lot happier and more successful.

didn't ask for your pin number, just some indication you have any firsthand knowledge apart from reading online rumours. That's fair, isn't it?

I just don't see how your or my experiences have much bearing on the factualness of the news.

If what you and malcontent say is true - that everyone is fully aware of the terrible anti-democratic practices and massive media bias - my question is how can people not protest against it, let alone keep voting for the PAP?
