LTVP or PR

Post by jwoods1864 » Sat, 11 Feb 2023 10:30 am

Hey:)

I am on an SPASS and working in an International School. I got married last month to my girlfriend who is a Singapore PR.
Is there any difference in chances going from SPASS to PR under the family ties scheme or going from LTVP with PLOC to PR?

I suppose I might try and switch to ltvp anyway because it means I can do part time work without breaking any rules!

I would stay on S pass and apply for PR through family ties after the dust settles on your marriage. LTVP is subject to PLOC, which would make me a little uneasy.

Uneasy in the sense that if they reject the PLOC then you have shot yourself in the foot?
Can you just not proceed with the process if that part is rejected? At which stage in the process is your other card actually cancelled?
Thanks for your input!

I’ve not been through it, so I will let others chime in.

In Singapore it’s usually best to put your strongest foot forward, and LTVP relies on your spouse’s financial wherewithal - it is more like a dependent pass. Besides PLOC, getting LTVP itself is not guaranteed, my BIL was initially rejected even though he had been long married and had a child with my SIL who was a long time PR.

I married a PR around 20 years ago and I’m still on a work pass*. I would not consider downgrading to a LTVP unless I lost my job. It’s definitely a plan B, not a plan A.

*my circumstances are unique, PR offers no real benefit in my situation.
