Chances of Singapore Citizenship

Post by WaitingforSC » Wed, 18 Jan 2023 1:10 pm

Hi Community Experts,

Would like some opinion over chances of getting Singapore citizenship this year.

Background-
I am 39 years old male and have Applied citizenship 12 months ago with whole family (wife , 1 daughter(10) & 1 son(5) ).

Got PR in 2019 & living in Singapore since 2010(both kids born here and studying in local school).

Current citizenship- Indian .

Appreciate some expert views.

Can you share what your PR application looked like (industry, salary, education, prior attempts, etc) back in 2018-2019 for context? And then what it looks like now (i.e. any changes)? Assume you applied via PTS.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is enough info from the above. Even with the answers, there may still not be enough info to really know. Some other posts here, people have been unable to obtain SC after one or two tries (some moved on instead of trying again).

Generically, I feel like the best chances are in the have been PR 5-10 years timeframe, but I don't really know and it probably depends on a lot of stuff.

Good luck and regards.

Thanks for your reply! I can help with few details like I got my PR after 3rd rejection , currently employed with a financial firm in cyberspace
, combined salary is around 350K and by education, both of us are masters.

I have been hearing different opinions around timing for application result (no surprise though) ranging from getting a SC in 7 months to getting rejected after 27 months, hence the post to get a sense check from a broader community.

Congrats on eventually getting through the PR process. Out of curiosity, are either of your Masters local or both overseas? And was the application that finally got approved the first one with your son?

I have no idea on your pending SC application. My gut feel is less than 50:50 this time around. Over time, more likely than not you can obtain if you can persevere. But based on history, no guarantees and be prepared for many long waits.

See if anyone else that has more time here replies. Best of luck and regards.

Wait time is completely unpredictable. Could be fast like you mentioned, or could be closer to 27/28 months. There's no rhyme or reason.

Right now I see no red flags, but that might also be because there are so many missing details. Plus points are that you're both fairly young, already have a family, including a son, and have been here for over 10 years. Might be too soon to apply for citizenship, though, that's one of the reasons why I could see you getting rejected.

Hi, just want to say we have a similar profile.

We got our PR in 2019 and applied for citizenship in June 2021 (almost 20 months ago).

We are a family of 4 (my wife and I and 2 girls). All PR
Mexican Chinese family
Girls 12 and 5
Eldest in local school
We've been in SG for 12 years

We are getting anxious as it's been very long time since we applied and as you know ICA can't provide any info about the progress...

We have seen applications take 27-30 months. Just have to keep waiting.

I feel you probably applied for SC a little too quickly. Usually recommend to wait 3-5 years after getting PR before applying for SC.

You don’t mention anything about you and your spouse ages, jobs, salary, nothing much to go on. And by Mexican Chinese, do you mean one parent is Mexican and another parent is Chinese?

I have encountered one family here with South American descent (not Mexican but I forgot which country exactly) all getting citizenship over a decade ago. It’s not impossible. You won’t be the first.

Don't let the time stress you out, there are many cases where the waiting time extends past two years, only to be approved in the end

Agree, not nearly enough info to make an informed guess. I believe one spouse is Mexican, and the other Chinese, the ethnicity describes that of the children.

Thanks guys, I wasn't really looking for advice. My post was more around answering OP's question regarding the time it could take to receive the results given that our profile is somewhat similar (lenght of stay in Singapore, family, application times, etc.)

But now that I'm here and if it helps anyone else, here a few more details:
  • We are a family of 4 (my wife and I and 2 girls). All PR
  • Parents are one Mexican and one Chinese 39/38yo
  • Working on the Banking/IT sector
  • Girls 12 and 5 are also one Mexican and one Chinese (we had to do this due to passport complexities)
  • Eldest in local Secondary school, youngest in pre-school
  • We've been in SG for 12 years
  • Got PR in 2019 (Third attempt)
  • Combined salary of 270k

Sorry to hear that. Are you planning to reapply?
