Hi I previously lived in SG for about 10 years on an EP - PR got rejected and was unhappy with the job so decided to go back to the US. I did the proper process - cleared taxes, credit cards, bank accounts, PUB, etc...
I've been in the US for about 3 years now and an international company has reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in going back to SG. Quick question, assuming I take it(which I'm thinking about because the salary they are offering would offset the crazy rents now) and get approved, would I receive the same FIN I had previously? Just curious since I think the same FIN would make PUB set up and credit cards/banking and other things easier.

Yes. Ideally, you have access to documents so that you remember what your previous FIN was.

Of course, it would be an administrative nightmare if they used the same one for multiple people.

I'm assuming that in case one is unable to retrieve it there are other methods to recover this info, probably stored in some large database.

I have copies of my previous documents so i know the number. I thought perhaps that they would 'retire' the number and generate a new one. But, it's good to know that I'll be able to get it back. Thanks

For the record, and I posted this just last week in another thread I believe. Once you have a FIN issued, it will forever remain in the system and in your name. Even if you leave for a decade before returning here on another job. It will always be the same.
The only time you will stop using your FIN (using not losing-it is permanent but mothballed) is when/if you gain PR. At that point in time your FIN will be mothballed and you will be issued an NRIC number. This will remain indefinitely even if you eventually become an SGC. Only the NRIC colour will change, the number will not.
So you should always keep either a hardcopy or photo catalog of all your documents just like the government here does. Having a record of your FIN is important for things like getting a police report and retrieving medical records if necessary.

Nope, not a chance. And with a numerical system, the combinations are infinite, so they would never need to reuse.
