Hi Aileen,
I have never setup a food stall b4. But, I was an obeserver at a friend's stall at Maxwell market. He bought his equipment all in all about S$14000, brand new. Use PUB gas stove.
Watch out for the long hours and the rental..... these are the FACTORS that will creep up on you, whether buziness is good or bad.

Good luck.

There are at least two type of stalls. One is sublet from coffee shop operators, and the other one is directly with Govt. dept such as Maxwell market.
Deposit: I have not heard of anyone paying 6 months deposit. Generally, 2 months deposit.
PUB: Yes, you need to pay the electric, wateeer and gas.
Depending on what you sell, the startup equipment cost will vary. You probably need a fridge (about $1300 - $1600). Stainless steel counter (price varies, also second hand is available).
By my estimate, the low side of the startup is probably $25000, and high side can cost up to $50,000.
The other alternative is to take over some other stalls.
THis is hard work....
Good luck.
